What Is Wet Wrap Therapy For Eczema
People with eczema often have two problems: a defective skin barrier that dries out easily and is more open to invasion from allergens and germs than normal and an overly sensitive immune system.
That means treatment needs to be twofold:
- Repair the damaged skin
- Avoid exposure to allergens and irritants
Sounds simple, but anyone who deals with eczema knows that it is anything but easy. Stopping the itch is key, as the itch-scratch cycle feeds upon itself.
For patients with difficult-to- manage eczema, one treatment option is wet wrap therapy.
After doing a soak-and-seal warm bath and applying medication, the patients eczema-damaged skin is wrapped in a layer of wet cloths, topped often by dry clothes such as pajamas, sweatshirt or tube socks. Plenty of videos demonstrating wet wrap therapy for eczema are available online.
Doctors recommend wet wrap therapy as an intervention for moderate-to-severe cases. Wet wrap therapy can reduce the need for medication, but it should be done only after consulting with a physician.
Before Taking This Medicine
You should not use Dupixent if you are allergic to dupilumab.
Dupixent should not be given to a child younger than 6 months of age to treat eczema, younger than 6 years of age to treat asthma, under 12 years of age to treat eosinophilic esophagitis, or younger than 18 years of age to treat chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis or prurigo nodularis.
To make sure Dupixent is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

a parasite infection or

if you are scheduled to receive any vaccine.
If you use Dupixent to treat eczema or chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, tell your doctor if you also have asthma.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry to track the effects of dupilumab on the baby.

What If I Miss A Dose
What to do if you miss a dose of Dupixent depends on how often you take the drug.
For instance, if you take Dupixent every other week and miss a dose, take the dose within 7 days of missing it. If you forget to take it within 7 days, skip that dose and wait until youre supposed to take the next dose.
For children taking Dupixent once every 4 weeks, give the missed dose within 7 days of when it was missed. Then, go back to their original dosing schedule. If the missed dose isnt given within 7 days, give one dose, then start a new dosing schedule based on the date its given.
For example, lets say your child usually takes a dose of Dupixent on the first of the month. But this dose is missed, and its not taken until the eighth of the month. In that case, your child will start taking a dose on the eighth of every month.
To help make sure that you dont miss a dose, try setting a reminder on your phone. A medication timer may be useful, too.
For Some Kids With Atopic Dermatitis Even Prescription Creams Arent Enough
In babies and young children, atopic dermatitis produces rashes that can feel dry, raw, and scaly, according to the AAD. Affected areas can cause intense itching and ooze or weep fluid. Its not uncommon for babies to develop skin infections, have trouble sleeping, or act fussy when they have eczema.
For children with milder cases, baths with gentle soaps immediately followed by moisturizer can help prevent symptom flare-ups and soothe skin, according to the NEA. Adding a half cup of bleach to a full tub of water can sometimes reduce the inflammation that exacerbates eczema symptoms.
Over-the-counter remedies like petroleum jelly or mild corticosteroid creams or ointments can also sometimes control symptoms, according to the NEA. Stronger prescription versions of topical corticosteroids are also approved for use in babies and toddlers.
Dupixent offers a different option. First approved for adults about five years ago, and more recently in adolescents and children older than 5, Dupixent is in a family of medicines known as biologics, which are drugs derived from living cells or tissues that are designed to target specific parts of the immune system.
An overactive immune system can contribute to chronic inflammatory diseases like atopic dermatitis. According to the NEA, Dupixent calms the immune system by blocking a type of protein called an interleukin from binding to cell receptors.

What Are The Risk Of Dupilumab
Dupixent is generally well tolerated and does not require regular blood tests. Common side effects of dupilumab include eye inflammation , headaches and cold sores. People who have asthma as well as eczema could experience a worsening of their asthma symptoms if they stop taking dupilumab. Very rare side effects include serum sickness-like reactions: fever, rash and joint pain and/or swelling. The safety profile of dupilumab is superior to that of immunosuppressive drugs.

Do Moisturizers Help Eczema
Moisturizers are the first-line therapy in treating eczema. They help protect the outer layer of the skin by sealing in moisture, combating dryness, keeping out allergens, irritants and bacteria and preventing flare-ups. And they soothe the skin for long-lasting hydration.
Doctors recommend you apply a moisturizer at least twice per day, including once after a bath or shower. Develop a schedule so that moisturizing becomes part of your skincare routine.

From Monday 1 March 2021 the medicine Dupixent® will be available to Australians over 12 years of age living with severe atopic dermatitis who are not adequately controlled on topical therapy.
The Government will invest over $270 million in this new PBS medicine listing with more than 3,600 people expected to benefit each year.
Without PBS subsidy people might otherwise pay around $22,800 a year to access this life changing medicine.

Are Baths A Good Treatment For Eczema
Eczema is more than just dry skin. Flares erupt unpredictably: dry, scaly, irritated spots on the face or hands, or inside the crease of the elbow or knee. The itch is almost unbearable and scratching makes it worse, resulting in what feels like an endless cycle.

However, if you take steroid pills such as prednisone to control your symptoms, you may have withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking those. Symptoms of withdrawal from suddenly stopping a steroid includes weakness, nausea, vomiting, and feeling tired.
You shouldnt stop taking steroid medications abruptly or without talking to your doctor. Its best to slowly lower your dose of steroids before stopping entirely.
