Who Gets Dyshidrotic Eczema And Why
This common form of eczema, also called pompholyx , foot-and-hand eczema, palmoplantar eczema and vesicular eczema, is found more frequently in women than in men.
Dyshidrotic eczema is most common in younger adults, typically between the ages of 20 and 40. People can have a single flare-up of dyshidrotic eczema, but its more common for it to come and go over long periods of time.
Metals, particularly nickel, are a common trigger. Stress can also cause a flare. The condition is also linked to seasonal allergies like hay fever, and to hot, humid weather. Corticosteroid that you apply to your skin: After each soak or cool compress, youll likely need to apply a medicated cream or ointment, such as a prescription corticosteroid. This helps to reduce the inflammation and clear the blisters.
Anti-itch medicine: An antihistamine pill or other anti-itch medicine can reduce your discomfort. Anything you can do to reduce scratching is helpful because scratching tends to worsen dyshidrotic eczema. One anti-itch medication that dermatologists frequently include in a treatment plan is pramoxine . Available as a cream or lotion, this medication helps to relieve itch and pain.
Moisturizer or a barrier repair cream: Dyshidrotic eczema can make your skin extremely dry. To reduce dryness and decrease flare-ups, your dermatologist will recommend a moisturizer or barrier repair cream.

Okay What Are Dyshidrotic Eczema Treatment Options
The first thing you can try at home is a cool compress. Soak a clean washcloth in cool or ice water, wring it dry, and then apply it to itchy skin for several minutes, advises Shah. Immediately follow with a fragrance-free moisturizer or skin barrier repair cream like Eucerin Eczema Relief Body Creme. Repeat multiple times daily.
If things aren’t getting any better, you should def see your derm rather than suffer in silence. The first line of treatment is high potency topical steroidsand in severe or stubborn cases, we may also use oral steroids or immunosuppressive agents, says Shah. Another popular option is monitored and controlled use of ultraviolet light therapy to decrease underlying inflammation in skin.

What Is The Fastest Way To Cure Dyshidrosis
Doctors have yet to find a cure for this type of eczema. That doesnt mean youre doomed to having flares for months on end, though. Treating eczema blisters can often provide lots of relief pretty fast, too!
In some cases, you may be able to treat eczema blisters quickly at home with methods like over-the-counter steroid creams, washing and moisturizing, and eliminating triggers.
Keep in mind that stress can be a trigger for eczema blisters, so if youve had a recent uptick in school, work, or life pressures, seek out ways to regain a sense of calm when you can like meditation, yoga, or other relaxation techniques. What Are The Types Of Eczema
The different types are:
- Atopic dermatitis occurs when the skins natural barrier against the elements is weakened. This means a patients skin is less able to protect them against irritants and allergens.
- Contact dermatitis is an affliction when patients come into contact with a substance that irritates the skin or causes an allergic reaction.
- Dyshidrotic eczema causes small blisters to form on a patients hands and feet.
- Nummular eczema causes round, coin-shaped spots to form on your skin that can be uncomfortably itchy.
- Seborrheic dermatitis often afflicts the scalp and causes scaly patches, red skin and stubborn dandruff.
- Stasis dermatitis is a condition that causes inflammation, ulcers, and itchy skin on the lower legs.

How Is Dyshidrotic Eczema Diagnosed
If youve been dealing with red, itchy skin for more than a week, its a good idea to seek out your doctor or dermatologist, because many skin conditions can cause blisters.
During your visit, your doctor will most likely take a look at your skin and ask you if youve noticed a pattern around your blisters like if youve started using different products or have felt particularly stressed and if your jobs or hobbies include coming into contact with metals.
If your doctor believes your dyshidrotic eczema could be due to an allergy, they may do an allergy test.
If your case is severe or if the symptoms have been long-lasting, you may be prescribed medication.
The severity of your outbreak and other personal health factors determine which treatments your doctor might suggest. It also may be necessary to try more than one treatment before finding one that works.

Signs And Symptoms Of Pompholyx
Pompholyx usually starts as intense itching and burning of the skin on the hands and fingers. The palms and sides of the fingers then erupt into tiny itchy blisters that may weep fluid.
In severe cases, the blisters may be quite large and may spread to the backs of the hands, feet and limbs.
The skin can sometimes become infected. Signs of an infection can include the blisters becoming very painful and oozing pus or becoming covered in a golden crust.
The blisters will usually heal within a few weeks. The skin tends to become dry and crack or peel as it starts to heal.
How To Cure Eczema Permanently
There isnât a permanent cure for Eczema. However, you can ease the symptoms first and eventually let your skin heal. Look for a medication that can reach deep into the skin to reduce the itch and inflammation and get rid of the bacteria thatâs worsening the Eczema condition. The location of these rashes on the hands and feet can significantly impact the daily lives of patients who are in discomfort or insecure about social interactions, such as shaking hands.
Dyshidrotic eczema causes a range of symptoms, including the following:
- Rash on the hands and feet
- Small, painful blisters
- Dried skin that peels or cracks, increasing risk of infection
- Swelling, pain, or pus-filled blisters, if a bacterial skin infection develops
Treatment Of Dyshidrotic Eczema
Treatments for dyshidrotic eczema are as follows:
- First-line treatment includes high-strength topical steroids and cold compresses systemic steroids also used
- Treatment for bullae : Compresses with Burow solution or 1:10.000 solution of potassium permanganate drain large bullae with sterile syringe and leave roof intact prescribe systemic antibiotics covering Staphylococcus aureus and group A streptococci
- UVA or UVA-1 alone or with oral or topical psoralen
- Topical calcineurin inhibitors
- For severe refractory pompholyx, azathioprine, methotrexate, mycophenolate mofetil, cyclosporine, or etanercept
- Nickel chelators occasionally used in nickel-sensitive patients
- Alitretinoin
- Dietary avoidance of nickel and cobalt for nickel- and cobalt-sensitive patients

Dyshidrotic Eczema Vs Atopic Dermatitis
Dyshidrotic eczema is different from atopic dermatitis, even though both are types of chronic eczema that flare up when the skin is exposed to certain triggers.
While dyshidrotic eczema causes itchy, watery blisters on the hands and feet, atopic dermatitis causes a scaly, itchy rash that could appear anywhere on the body . And in babies and young children, atopic dermatitis is much more common than dyshidrotic eczema.
But someone can have dyshidrotic eczema on their hands and feet, along with other types of eczema on other parts of their body. In fact, the UKs National Eczema Society reports that 50% of people with dyshidrotic eczema either have atopic dermatitis as well, or have a family history of atopic dermatitis.
Balance The Skin Microbiome
