How To Make Eczema Cream

Natural Ingredients That Relieve Eczema:

Tutorial for making a Natural Healing Cream for Eczema and Psoriasis

Wrap Up In Cold Weather

Cold, harsh winter winds can dry out the skin and cause eczema flares.

Keep the skin covered when temperatures are low. Also, consider covering the face with a scarf if eczema occurs in this body region.

While many home remedies are suitable for babies and children, always speak with a doctor before using them.

The following home remedies and tips may help:

How To Make Eczema Cream:

Begin by adding 6 tablespoons of cocoa butter, 6 tablespoons of shea butter, and 1/2 cup of coconut oil into the top pot of a double boiler. Fill the bottom pot with about 2 inches of water. Place the top pot over the bottom pot and heat butter and coconut oil until melted, mixing often with a whisk.

Once melted remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil and 1 tablespoon of vitamin E oil to the mixture. Whisk well to combine.

Cover and place mixture in the refrigerator for one hour or until firm.

Next, using a hand mixer, whip until creamy and light. Add 1/2 teaspoon lavender essential oil and mix again to blend. Spoon whipped body butter into airtight containers.

NOTES:

  • Whipped body butter may seem extra moist after whipping, no worries it will firm up after a few minutes.
  • The last steps to chill and whip the butter together are essential for a smooth, silky cream. I know youll be dying to try it but dont skip the final steps.

Homemade Skin Cream: A Look At The Ingredients

Coconut Oil: A personally favorite for any homemade creams and lotions. Because of coconut oils anti-viral, antibacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal properties its often found in plenty of beauty and personal care recipes. *If you are allergic to coconut oil just double the shea butter and leave this out. Or replace it with olive or jojoba oil.

Shea Butter: One of my favorite natural ingredients and a perfect moisturizer that heals the skin and eczema wonderfully. It is rich in Vitamin A and mimics the natural moisturize produced by our skin.

Melrose Essential Oil: This is a blend of Melaleuca , Naouli, Rosemary and Clove essential oils. This power combo has amazing natural properties to support healthy skin and heal eczema.

Lavender Essential Oil: Another oil that is known for its tissue health. It shares a lot of the same properties as Melrose. Its a tried and true essential natural oil for skin treatment.

Vitamin E Oil: Great for the skin, and a natural preservative. I usually add a little of this to all my homemade beauty products and treatments.

All of these natural ingredients are safe for babies and young children, but this homemade cream will work for adults, too!

Well, ready for this natural homemade recipe? Lets do it!

Tips On Choosing A Moisturizer

DIY Homemade Eczema Cream with Essential Oils

Finding a moisturizer that works can be a challenge. What works for one person may not work for another. As the condition of your skin changes so can the effectiveness of a product. A manufacturer may also change the formulation of a product from one year to the next. The best eczema lotion, cream or moisturizer is the one that works for you.

Take the following steps when introducing a new product to your skin:

  • If you know you are allergic to a particular ingredient, check a products label before you buy it.
  • Review the list of moisturizers that have received the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance to see if the product you are interested in is on it.
  • The first time you use a new product apply a small amount to the pulse of your wrist or the crook of your elbow. Do not wash the area for 24 to 48 hours and watch for any allergic reaction, such as redness, a rash, any form of breakouts on the skin, itchiness, pain, or flaking.

Why Use Glass And Not Plastic With Essential Oils

There are two reasons that you should be using a glass container when storing essential oils.

The first is that undiluted essential oils have some properties that will break down the plastic, which can destroy the oil and often cause leakage.

The second reason to get a tinted glass container is that the suns UV rays can increase the temperatures of the essential oil and cause deterioration to the quality of the oils.

So storing pure essential oils in a tinted or colored glass container is highly recommended.

Colored containers, like cobalt blue and amber-tinted glass, reflect the suns rays and protect oils when stored.

I didnt know this when I made the first batch of eczema cream, but since then have purchased the cobalt blue glass and spray bottles.

If you notice, all pure essential oils will come in a tinted glass bottle.

The first thing our daughter told me when we first applied the cream was thank you, mommy, it stopped itching.

My heart just filled up with joy, knowing that I made something that is working for her!

As parents, all we want is to see our children happy and not suffer.

Im so grateful to have found how amazing essential oils are and all the uses they are great for.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

    Soothing The Itch And Irritation

There is no cure for eczema or psoriasis. Treatment of both is limited to controlling the severity of the outbreaks and soothing the symptoms. Keeping the skin clean and moisturized is the usual remedy however some of the prescribed medications and products can be harsh. One of these is the use of mineral oil and petroleum jelly on the skin. Both are by-products of petroleum production and while they do help the skin stay moist they clog the pores and prevent air from reaching your skin.

The other treatment which is more specifically for Psoriasis involves sitting in a bath with the essence of coal tar. A close family member of mine has Psoriasis and I can still remember the smell of these baths its similar to the smell of tarmac being laid. Despite the fact of its origins, tar baths can be very effective. This cream could be used alongside other treatments but please speak to your dermatologist to get the go-ahead first.

    Manuka Essential Oil Benefits

I used Manuka essential oil in this homemade eczema cream recipe because Manuka carries great benefits for dry and irritated skin.

The native populations of New Zealand have traditionally used all parts of this plant as an important part of their healing tradition. It prevents bacterial infections, improves symptoms of dry scalp, and carries a relaxing nature with it ².

Manuka is related to Melaleuca essential oil, as they are both part of the same botanical family of Myrtaceae. Still, they are distinctly different oils. Tea tree oil is native to Australia, Manuka is native to New Zealand.

    Homemade Eczema Cream

Our oldest daughter has always suffered from food allergies, which also causes her to have bad reactions to eczema on her body.

Since she was a little girl we have used every lotion, soap, and shampoo brand you can think of.

We have paid anywhere from a few dollars to $40 creams for her.

As first-time parents, we were so lost on how to help her eczema feel better, but after years of looking and trying different brands I ended up making my own cream at home with essential oils that helped soothe her skin.

    What Causes Eczema

Eczema is usually caused hereditary and it is found in people who suffer from some type of allergy or asthma.

In our daughters case, its caused by her food allergies, things she eats, and sometimes the products she uses.

Her skin is very sensitive and can break out easily if we are not careful with using products that have perfumes.

Even the chlorine in the pool makes her break out into eczema patches.

What Kinds Of Moisturizers Are Most Effective For My Eczema

Not all moisturizers are created equal. In fact, there are many types of common moisturizers that arent good at helping control your eczema and may even make it flare or get worse. Its important to understand the differences between the three basic types of moisturizers ointments, creams, and lotions so that you can properly hydrate your skin and help keep your symptoms under control.

Moisturizers are classified based on the amount of oil and water they contain. The more oil in a moisturizer, the better it usually is at treating eczema. The best moisturizers to use are the ones that feel greasy , because they contain more oil. These are very effective at keeping moisture in and irritants out.

All moisturizers should also be applied to your hands immediately after washing and gently blotting them dry. For this reason, its a good idea to keep moisturizer near every sink in your home and carry a small tube with you at all times, so that you can reapply it throughout the day.

    Balancing The Skins Acidity Levels

DIY Eczema Cream | Essential Oils for Eczema

Vinegar is highly acidic. The skin is naturally acidic, but people with eczema may have less acidic skin than others, which can weaken the skins defenses.

Applying diluted apple cider vinegar could help balance the skins acidity levels, but vinegar can cause burns if it is not diluted.

In contrast, many soaps, detergents, and cleansers are alkaline. They can disrupt the acidity of the skin, which can leave the skin vulnerable to damage. This may explain why washing with certain soaps can cause eczema flares.

How To Use Tea Tree Oil On Your Scalp

Tea tree oil can also help relieve mild to moderate dandruff, a common symptom of eczema. One 2002 found that a 5 percent tea tree oil shampoo worked well to clear up dandruff and didnt cause any adverse effects. In addition to clearing up pesky skin flakes, tea tree oil may:

    • unclog hair follicles
    • nourish your roots
    • reduce hair loss

When selecting your shampoo, make sure the product contains at least 5 percent tea tree oil and has an all-natural formula. Harsh chemicals may irritate your scalp.

You can also make your own. Add 2 to 3 drops of undiluted tea tree oil to a quarter-sized amount of your regular shampoo. The shampoo acts as a carrier for the tea tree oil, so theres no need to dilute it further.

After shampooing, rinse and condition as you normally would. You can use tea tree oil shampoo as often as youd like. If you find that its causing unexpected irritation, try using it every other time you wash your hair. If symptoms persist, discontinue use.

    How To Treat Eczema

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition

Eczema treatments arent in any respect difficult to get started. While pharmaceutical treatments are helpful, they simply suppress symptoms but dont heal the source of the issue.

Theres no absolute treatment for eczema that works for everyone with the condition. However, there are various methods of fighting its symptoms.

For brief spans of time, steroid creams can be used as an eczema therapy. You might require an antibiotic cream prescription or other therapy, based on the assessment of your medical care provider.

As natural compounds of plants, essential oils have many homeopathic benefits that have been known to help with a range of skin issues. Rather than using cortisone-based products, you can decide on using essential oils instead.
