Foods You Should Avoid In Case Of Eczema

A few foods are commonly ruled out of the eczema diet plan to help control the symptoms of eczema. The listed foods are possible eczema triggers. However, it is not necessary that a class of food that aggravates the condition in a person, may affect the other even these vary from individual to individual and their symptoms.

Listed are the most common foods to be avoided to keep eczema under control:

In a few people with AD, dairy products have been found worsening their symptoms. Although, rich in protein, calcium and vitamin D, dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt, and whey are found to cause lactose intolerance in 20% of the people. You may prefer using raw dairy in place of the commercially available dairy products.

When experiencing allergic reactions, people tend to rule out contact allergies and start with cutting out groups of food like diary. Each week they add another group back in. So I would suggest they cut what I have below and add them per week. IT IS IMPORTANT to wait a week after adding the food back in, because the allergy often takes a while to show up. A week is usually enough and if they can, they should try to eat the trigger food in large amounts every day to see if it is going to trigger a reaction. Obviously if it is a dangerous level of known allergies, avoid those foods.

Is Vitamin D The Answer

Q.: Im always looking for ways to treat my eczema holistically. I recently read that vitamin D can help improve it. The sun irritates my skin, so I try to stay out of the sunlight should I start taking supplements?

Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones and teeth and supports good immune function as it regulates the immune system . Other than supplements, vitamin D is obtained from sunlight and foods.

There has been some research into whether low levels of vitamin D trigger the development of eczema, and if taking supplements can improve symptoms. A key clinical review in 2015 proposed a link between eczema and lower levels of vitamin D, and found that vitamin D helped protect the skin barrier and suppress inflammation.

A 2018 systemic review found that children under 18 with low vitamin D levels had more severe eczema, with 67% seeing improvements after taking vitamin D supplements.

Recent research published in the British Journal of Dermatology revealed that babies had a lower risk of developing atopic eczema in their first year if their mothers took 25mcg of vitamin D daily from 14 weeks of pregnancy until delivery. However, overall, there is not enough evidence that vitamin D affects the development of atopic eczema.

Research Into Foods That May Help Eczema
