- emollients use these all the time and instead of soap to stop your skin becoming dry
- steroid cream this reduces the inflammation and irritation and helps the skin heal
Your GP will probably prescribe a strong steroid cream to use for a short period of time to minimise the risk of steroid side effects.
You may be advised to wear cotton gloves at night to help the cream sink into the skin.
You can also try:
- soaking your hands in a dilute solution of potassium permanganate for 10 to 15 minutes once or twice a day for up to 5 days
- antihistamines to relieve the itching and help you sleep if the itchiness is keeping you awake at night
These treatments are available from pharmacies without a prescription. Your pharmacist can advise whether they’re suitable for you and how you should use them.
Antibiotics may be prescribed if your skin becomes infected.
How Does Weeping Eczema Affect My Body
The fluid-filled blisters that appear with weeping eczema ooze, causing wetness on the skin. The fluid dries and results in a yellow-to-orange crusty layer on your skin. People with eczema have sensitive skin. Irritants such as heat or detergents can easily trigger a bout of eczema.Suggestions for reducing skin irritation include:
- Avoid overheating your skin. Wear several layers of clothing that you can remove, as required, instead of one heavy layer. Dont put too many blankets on your bed and avoid doonas.
- Dont use perfumed bubble bath or bath products labelled medicated.
- Wear soft, smooth materials next to your skin, preferably 100% cotton. Avoid scratchy materials, such as pure wool, polyester or acrylic. You could try a cotton and synthetic mix material this is fine for some people with eczema. Remove labels from clothing.
- Always wear protective gloves when using any type of chemical or detergent. You may want to wear cotton gloves inside rubber or PVC gloves.
- Avoid chlorinated pools. If you have to swim in a chlorinated pool, moisturise your skin well when you get out.

Other nonsteroidal topical treatments include topical immunomodulators , like tacrolimus or pimecrolimus . Also known as topical calcineurin inhibitors, they work by changing the bodys immune response to allergens. They have fewer side effects than steroids.

Differentiating Shingles And Eczema: Diagnosis And Treatment
Shingles is diagnosed through examining the history of pain on one side of the body and the appearance of a rash and blisters. Your doctor may take tissue samples of the blisters for laboratory examination to confirm diagnosis.
Treatment of shingles is done with prescribed antiviral medications, which include acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir. Along with antivirals, your doctor may also recommend other treatments to ease symptoms, including capsaicin cream, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, numbing agents, medications that contain narcotics, and corticosteroid injections.

Just like the rest of my body my skin has been highly sensitive for as long as I have lived. It just comes with the package of being a Highly Sensitive Person ! When I was little I would always get rashes from grass, plants, food, and random medications. At the time we assumed it was from getting my hair highlighted. I even went through a phase in high school where my hair was bleached basically WHITE, and I always just thought my scalp was sensitive to the hair dye and bleach.

How Will I Know If My Treatment Is Working Will It Require Testing
The goal of ITP treatment is to reduce the risk of serious and fatal bleeding by keeping platelet counts in a safe range. The lower the platelet count, the greater the risk of bleeding. However, other factors can influence your bleeding risk, such as your age, activity level, and other medications youre taking.
A complete blood count test is used to detect increased platelet counts and determine responses to treatment.
What Causes Discoid Eczema
The exact cause of discoid eczema is not known, although dry skin is perhaps the most common feature. Children and adults with atopic eczema can present with discoid eczema or a mixture of both flexural eczema and discoid eczema. People who had atopic eczema in childhood are often left with dry skin these people may develop discoid eczema as adults, particularly on the hands. Others with no history of eczema but who nevertheless have sensitive skin, which is drier than normal, can also develop discoid eczema, often in middle age or later.
Discoid eczema is more common in the cold winter months, when our skin is exposed to central heating, dry air and fan heaters, which all dry the skin. Frequent contact with degreasing agents can remove the natural oils of the skin, leaving it dry and cracked, and causing an irritant contact dermatitis. Older people, whose skin is drier and thinner, can be more prone to discoid eczema especially if they have varicose and asteatotic eczema.
Emotional stress may play a part in the development of discoid eczema, but is unlikely to be the sole cause of it. Worry can make the condition worse, or more longlasting, and any sources of concern should be dealt with if possible.

Skin affected by eczema is more vulnerable to a range of infections, including impetigo, cold sores and warts. The bacterium Staphylococcus aureus may cause a secondary infection of impetigo, and possibly contribute to the symptoms of eczema.Suggestions for washing include:
- Take lukewarm baths or showers, and avoid really hot showers.
- Dont use ordinary soap, as the ingredients may aggravate your eczema. Wash your body with warm water alone. For armpits and groin, use soap-free products, such as sorbolene cream.
- Bath oils can help to moisturise your skin while bathing.
- When towelling dry, pat rather than rub your skin.
Treatments Your Physician May Prescribe
To manage dyshidrotic eczema, your physician may recommend removal of irritating agents and, if many blisters are present, soaks with drying agents.
- Medium- and high-potency topical steroids may be prescribed to be used twice daily. Use of a high-potency topical steroid initially that is tapered as allowed may be most beneficial.
- An oral steroid may be necessary but people often cannot be tapered off this therapy.
- Chronic, severe disease can be treated with a form of light therapy called PUVA administered by a dermatologist.
