Diagnosing Paget’s Disease Of The Nipple

HOW TO cure baby’s eczema with breast milk ð

You should see your GP if you notice any changes in the skin of your nipple or areola.

As Paget’s disease of the nipple is associated with breast cancer, the sooner it’s diagnosed, the better the outcome is likely to be.

Also see your GP if you develop a lump in your breast. Although most breast lumps are not cancerous, it’s important to have them checked out.

A biopsy is used to confirm a suspected diagnosis of Paget’s disease of the nipple. A small tissue sample will be taken from your nipple and examined under a microscope to see if it’s cancerous.

If the results of the biopsy indicate Paget’s disease, you’ll have a mammogram to investigate further.

Breast Milk For Eczema

Breast milk contains antibodies and other substances that help repair skin cells. In many cultures outside the United States, breast milk is used to treat skin problems such as eczema and diaper rash. If you’re breastfeeding, your options for cream and ointment treatments will probably be limited if your symptoms are on or near your nipples. Rubbing a few drops of breast milk into your nipples can help soothe irritated skin.

What Is The Outcome For Nipple Eczema

Nipple eczema tends to run a chronic course with varying degrees of relapse and remission. The aim is to prevent exacerbations by identifying and avoiding precipitating factors.

Patients should be educated on basic skin care. Mild nipple eczema can generally be well-controlled with the avoidance of soap, the application of liberal emollients, and the intermittent application of a topical steroid when the eczema is active .

What Is The Outlook For People With Eczema On Nipples

Eczema symptoms usually get better or go away with age. But flare-ups can happen throughout life. Youre more likely to have repeated flare-ups if you:

  • Also have allergies or asthma.
  • Got eczema at a young age.
  • Have severe eczema.

People who scratch their skin repeatedly are at an increased risk of infection. Long-term scratching can also cause your skin to harden and thicken over time. To avoid these complications, dont scratch the rash. Talk to your provider about ways to relieve the itching.

Symptoms And Causes Of Rash Under Breasts

A rash under the breast is a form of intertrigo. Dr. Melinda Ratini on WebMD says that intertrigo is a rash that appears between larger folds of skin. It can cause rashes to appear beneath the breasts and on the underside of the breasts.1

The symptom of a rash beneath the breasts is a reddish-brown rash which can feel itchy or raw. Very often the skin can ooze and become cracked and crusty. The rash can sometimes be accompanied by a foul odor.

The most common causes of a rash under the breasts are:

  • Excessive moisture trapped under the breast which can be caused by excessive sweating.
  • Lack of air circulation.
  • Chafing between the skin folds which can be caused by wearing a tight bra.

Dr. Tim Kenny on Patient.info says that a candida skin infection can also cause inflammation under the breast.2 This is sometimes referred to as candida intertrigo, and it can cause some breast soreness and a yellow-like substance to develop over the affected area.

One of the most common reasons for a rash under the breast is wearing a wrong fitting bra. Dermatologist Dr. Graham Johnston told the Daily Mail newspaper that a badly fitting bra can cause the skin to chafe. This can result in an itchy rash because of the sweatiness and chafing. This can then lead to further infections.3

Also, women who are overweight or have diabetes can also be more prone to developing infections under the breast.4

Your doctor may also prescribe a corticosteroid cream or ointment to reduce inflammation, redness and sore rashes under the breast.

Topical creams that kill scabies mites may also be prescribed. The most commonly used are Permethrin cream, 5 percent, Crotamiton, and Ivermectin. Consult with your doctor as some of these are not safe for children and women who are nursing or are pregnant.

Why Does Breast Milk Treat Eczema

Human breast milk is known to provide nutrition for infants and offer protection against infections. It has significant amounts of complement components that contain natural antimicrobial agents.

Some of these antimicrobial agents in the breast milk include antibodies, lysozymes, polymorphonuclear leukocytes. IgA is an immunoglobulin that particularly protects infants from a variety of skin infections. Lysozymes kill bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae and gram-negative bacteria, while leukocytes have anti-inflammatory effects. Other studies have also shown that human breast milk has wound healing properties.

A Clinical Study Using Breast Milk To Treat Eczema:

The study was conducted by a group of dermatologists in Iran who showed that human breast milk is as effective as 1% hydrocortisone ointment to treat infants with eczema.

A total of 104 infants with a diagnosis of eczema were enrolled in the clinical trial, and the infants were randomly assigned to two groups. Group A with 50 infants received 1% hydrocortisone ointment, and Group B with 54 infants received human breast milk. Mothers in group B were instructed to rub hindmilk twice a day on the affected area of their infants with eczema.

All infants were evaluated at day 1, 7, 14 and 21 days of the treatment. Nearly 82% of the infants receiving human breastmilk, and 76% using 1% hydrocortisone reported healing of their eczema conditions. Based on the results, the investigators in the study suggested human breast milk is as good as 1% hydrocortisone ointment in healing eczema in infants.

The Antitumoricidal Effect Of Hamlet

One example of translational medicine is the topical application of -lactalbumin-oleic acid, a natural product from breast milk. The complex called human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells was discovered by the Svanborg group when they were studying antiadhesive molecules in human milk .

HAMLET is formed during low-pH precipitation of the casein fraction, which allows for partial unfolding of the -lactalbumin structure and binding with the fatty acid. HAMLET triggers rapid carcinoma cell detachment in vitro and in cancer patients after topical administration of the lyophilized complex. To form HAMLET, -lactalbumin is obtained from human milk by chromatography. The partially unfold protein is subsequently bound to oleic acid on an ion-exchange matrix, and the complex is eluted with salt, purified, lyophilized, and frozen in aliquots for instillation .

Through gene set enrichment analysis, the researchers concluded that the prophylactic and therapeutic effects of HAMLET are accompanied by well-defined series of stable changes in gene expression, affecting Wnt signaling and -catenin, glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and lipid metabolism in tumor tissue .

The same complex showed strong bactericidal activity against specific pathogens of the oral cavity and respiratory track, with the highest activity against the gram-positive organism Streptococcus pneumoniae by cell shrinkage, DNA condensation, and DNA degradation .
