To get remove redness on the face, its helpful to have a daily skin care routine. Every day, wash your face with a gentle cleanser or water, pat the skin dry on the areas that are inflamed to soothe them, and then use a water-based moisturizer such as a cream or lotion to lock in moisture and reduce redness. This can really help to reduce inflammation fast!
Looking into your facial soaps, cleansers, and make-up products can help to see if there are harsh ingredients such as sulfates, exfoliants, or fragrance that might be causing your skin to break out.
Eczema on the face is typically patches of red and inflamed skin. This makes facial dermatitis especially difficult for children and adults to deal with, as it can be quite obvious and apparent!
Inflammation can also worsen due to outdoor triggers such as poor air quality such as pollution, dust, and dry weather. Because the skin has very little protection, its important to remove potential irritants and triggers.

Eczema Around The Eye
When eczema occurs on the face, it often affects the skin around the eyes or eyelids . Eczema that develops near the eyes needs special attention because the eyes themselves can be affected.
Signs Of An Infection
Occasionally, areas of skin affected by atopic eczema can become infected. Signs of an infection can include:
- your eczema getting a lot worse
- fluid oozing from the skin
- a yellow crust on the skin surface or small yellowish-white spots appearing in the eczema
- the skin becoming swollen and sore
- a high temperature and generally feeling unwell
See your doctor as soon as possible if you think your or your child’s skin may have become infected.

Q : How Is Eczema Related To Food Allergy
Whilst food allergy can trigger or worsen eczema symptoms in some people, food allergy is rarely the cause of eczema. Most food allergy causes hives , vomiting and irritability within 30 minutes of eating the offending food. Food allergy only occasionally triggers delayed eczema flare ups.
Many babies with moderate or severe eczema will also have a food allergy. In some babies with severe eczema, short term removal of certain food/s using a medically supervised elimination diet may result in better eczema control. An elimination diet should be supervised by a clinical immunology/allergy specialist , in association with a dietitian with specialised knowledge of food allergies.
If there is no improvement in two weeks on the elimination diet, it means that food is unlikely to be the cause of the eczema. If the skin improves, foods are introduced one at a time as a medically supervised food challenge, to confirm which food causes the eczema to flare.
If food allergy is not the cause of eczema, removal of the food/s will not reduce symptoms.
Children with eczema and/or food allergy can have false positive allergy tests, and this can lead to unnecessary removal of foods which may affect growth and development. Removal of foods may also increase the risk of developing allergy to those foods. Therefore, allergy test results should always be interpreted by a clinical immunology/allergy specialist.
Get Serious About Moisturizing
Hydrating regularly with a heavy-duty ointment or cream achieves two important things. First, it eases dryness that can lead to itching. Second, it acts as a barrier to block out potential irritants that can make you more uncomfortable or up the risk for infection.
Reach for a dense moisturizer or petroleum jelly, and again, steer clear of anything containing dyes or perfumes. Slather the stuff on within a minute or two after bathing and reapply as often as you feel like you need it.
For serious rejuvenation for hands and feet, apply before bedtime and slip on some cotton socks or gloves. Get a solid 78 hours and wake up to refreshed skin.

Can I Go Swimming If I Have A Skin Condition
Swimming in the ocean or in a pool will not transmit your skin condition to other people. That said, going swimming may irritate your skin and cause you to experience an uncomfortable flare-up. Cleaning your body after you swim and carefully patting your skin dry can decrease your chances of experiencing irritation. Applying a gentle moisturizing cream may also prevent your skin from becoming excessively dry.

Eczema on the face requires careful treatment as facial skin is more easily irritated by and vulnerable to the side effects of topical therapy. It is important to consider the possibility of an allergic contact dermatitis in anyone with a persistent facial eczema, even if they have a longstanding, in-built eczema tendency. It is helpful to make a diagnosis of which particular type of facial eczema someone has in order to know which treatment is likely to work best, and to help give an idea of the expected outcome usually, as eczema is a chronic condition, controlling facial eczema and preventing flares will be the main focus of treatment.
In general, treatment of facial eczema involves avoiding further irritation caused by cosmetics and toiletries, switching to a gentle regimen of skin cleansing, and actively treating the eczema with emollients and anti-inflammatory therapy .

What Is An Eczema Flare
- Inflamed reddish brown or gray patches, especially on your hands, feet, chest, neck, and inside the bends of your elbows and knees
- Serious itching that worsens at night

It can be hard when many products nowadays have up to fifty different ingredients so one good rule of thumb is to choose products that have fewer ingredients as this reduces the chances of there being ingredients that can potentially irritate and cause inflammation or redness in the skin.
Dont over-cleanse your skin
Overcleaning your skin is one of the worst things you can do to sensitive skin. Too much cleansing can further strip your already weak and thin lipid barrier. Get a super gentle cleanser and pick one with no sulfates. Sulfates are usually found in cleansers that can foam up and lather, so try to steer clear of them. Micellar water is another good option for removing makeup gently. Also, dont wash your face more than once a day. Keep the cleansing for at night when you need to remove all the build-up on your face.

Too Much Is Not A Good Thing When It Comes To Using Products To Treat Eczema
Wu warns that there is a limit to how many times you should apply over-the-counter cortisone products to relieve itching. Cortisone creams can cause thinning of the skin if used long term, according to the Mayo Clinic. Talk to your dermatologist about how often you should use a corticosteroid. For example, between flare-ups, you may be advised to use it only two days per week while just using moisturizer on the other days, a report from the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care notes.

Nearly half of children with eczema will outgrow the condition or experience great improvement by the time they reach puberty. Others will continue to have some form of the disease. For adults with eczema, the disease can be generally well-managed with good skin care and treatment, although flare-ups of symptoms can occur throughout life.
