You cannot take antibiotics or medicines to cure hand, foot and mouth disease. It usually gets better on its own in 7 to 10 days.

To help the symptoms:

  • take paracetamol or ibuprofen to help ease a sore mouth or throat

Use The Layered Glove Method When Showering During Flares

Once youve thoroughly washed your hands and put on the cream that works best for you, put on a pair of cotton gloves. Then, if you need to shower, add a layer of plastic gloves over them . That way, your hands are protected and not irritated when showering.

This is an excellent method to follow for washing your hair because, again, it keeps any potentially harmful chemicals away from your skin. I use gloves even when I dont have breakouts if Im using anything other than black soap and the products mentioned previously.

Avoiding triggering substances and materials can help prevent reactions that cause or worsen itching. These include synthetic fabrics, dyes, metals, gel hand sanitizers, and any known allergens. Protecting your hands with cotton gloves can also help decrease irritation and exposure to triggers.

Unlike some forms of eczema, you dont usually cover it with clothes, so its visible to others. It can affect social interactions you may not want to shake hands, for example.

Its very common to see emotional stress induce or exacerbate this type of eczema, he added. A college student may be in the midst of exams, for example, and suddenly develop blistering at the fingertips.
