When he was 42 years old, the skin on Marks hand became extremely painful and slightly itchy. A rash covered the back of his hands and some of his forearms. The only time Mark felt some relief was when he was away from work for a week.
Because Mark was exposed to many chemicals, his dermatologist started by testing him for allergies. The results showed that Mark wasnt allergic to anything tested.

Treatment And Medication Options For Dyshidrotic Eczema
While there is no cure for dyshidrotic eczema, as Lio says, you can manage most of the symptoms on your own with a doctors direction.
Typically, we start with gentle skin care and avoiding triggers, he says. I have some favorite gentle cleansers to use instead of harsh soaps, some super-protective moisturizers, and even a gentle hand sanitizer. If that is enough , then we can get by without any medications at all.
Dr. Kindred says that keeping skin moisturized is an important part of treating dyshidrotic eczema. Use lotions containing ceramides and then cover with a barrier ointment, such as petroleum jelly, she says.
The AAD has additional tips for self-care, such as how to cleanse, moisturize, and avoid triggers.
But with more severe dyshidrotic eczema, medication and other treatments are necessary for symptom relief, say both doctors.
What Do I Do If I Get A Rash Or Other Reaction To Hand Sanitizer
If you develop a rash or other reaction to a hand sanitizer, the first step is to stop using it and wash your hands with a gentle hand wash.

A 24-year-old woman asked her family physician to take a look at the itchy rash on the sides of her fingers. She said that any contact with water made it worse. Shed had the rash for a month, but had experienced it on and off over the previous 2 years. The itching was more severe at night and when the patient felt stressed. No one else in her family had this condition.
Whats your diagnosis?
The FP recognized the multiple tapioca-like vesicles on the sides of the patients fingers as pompholyx, also known as dyshidrotic eczema. One of the classic findings of dyshidrotic eczema is the vesicles that resemble the small spheres in tapioca pudding.
The term pompholyx means bubble, while the term dyshidrotic means difficult sweating, as problems with sweating were once believed to be the cause of this condition. Some dermatologists prefer the name vesicular hand dermatitis. Regardless of the terminology, this can be a very mild condition that is a minor nuisance or a very severe chronic condition that impairs the patients quality of life.
The FP explained that dyshidrotic eczema is not curable and may be worsened by stress and substances that come into contact with the hands. He discussed the possibility of avoiding washing the dishes and other wet work, but the patient said that wasnt possible, so he told her to use nitrile gloves with cotton liners.
