What Does Eczema Look Like

Homemade Body Butter For Dry Skin/ Eczema | DIY Shea Butter Cream

Eczema appears in the form of small red, rash-like bumps but also can look like small patches of dry, scaly skin. It is often itchy and it can come and go, making it hard to determine the cause.

My son had eczema for a good year before we pinpointed his trigger, which was dairy. He was allergic to casein, the protein in milk.

After two years of a complete diet change, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and essential oils for digestive health and allergies, his eczema disappeared completely.

During that time, the rash would come and go, but it always came back. When it would flare up, I would use this homemade eczema salve with essential oils to reduce the appearance of the rash, soothe the skin, relieve the itch and discomfort.

Because there is always an underlying cause for eczema, this salve is only meant to ease the irritation and to help lessen the appearance of the rash.

You can use this salve for soothing and moisturizing dry, flakey or itchy skin due to skin irritations. If eczema is the cause, the GAPS diet or the elimination diet might be worth trying out to help pinpoint the root cause. However, be sure to check with your doctor first.

How To Make Lavender Body Butter

  • In a large mixing bowl, place coconut oil and vitamin E oil.
  • Using a hand mixer, blend the coconut and vitamin E oils together for approximately 2 minutes, being sure to catch as much air as possible. You want this to be whipped as much as possible, because thats super-fun.
  • Add your Lavender drops and continue to blend with the hand mixer for an additional minute.
  • Lotion can be used immediately, or, for extra fun, you can pop it into the fridge for a half hour and let it get cold before rubbing it on the affected area.
  • This body butter recipe is so gentle, Ive even used it on my baby for her cradle cap . It kind of melts a little and goes really far, so when you scoop up some in your hand, be aware that it can get drippy, so work with small amounts.

And this helps relieve some of the eczema symptoms. I know nothing on the planet really cures eczema, but sometimes the itching is just SOOOOO crazy. So, by using this I can be more gentle on my skin than I might otherwise be. And when you can rub something on eczema-afflicted areas that doesnt contain alcohol, I feel like the moisture sticks with me longer. Also, because it contains lavender, we call this a sleepy-time lotion for my tween-son and toddler-daughter.

Through my research, I found that sometimes, the body butter becomes grainy. This can happen IF:

    • You heat the shea butter above its melting temperature Melt it over low heat for at least 10 minutes. You can also melt the other ingredients first and add the shea butter in the end.
    • The melted shea butter is cooled down too slow Pour the melted shea butter into a bowl and place it in the freezer or refrigerator, or over an ice bath, to cool down fast.
    • You use unrefined shea butter Use refined to avoid grainy feeling in the end product.
