What Oil Is Good For Baby Eczema

So Does It Help With Eczema

Baby Eczema Treatment

According to many patients, using baby oil as a step in their hygienic routines helps with eczema. It is important to remember that people that suffer from eczema should take extra precautions when bathing and showering as hot water can dry out the skin and cause a breakout. Always make sure to use a gentle soap and warm instead of hot water, and after you pat your body dry , you can definitely opt for baby oil as a moisturizer. Naturally, as with everything else, you should use it moderately. Do not pack your skin with oil as it can lead to a completely opposite result!

Adding a bit of baby oil to the bath can also help with the hydration of the skin. Again, make sure you dont fill your tub with hot water and do not stay inside for too long. After a relaxing bath, use some baby oil as a moisturizer as it has more staying power than the regular moisturizers do.

Bath Tip #: Choosing A Moisturiser

Even if your baby doesnât have eczema, itâs important to moisturise their skin. Recent research has shown that the regular use of a fragrance free moisturiser on babies can reduce their chance of developing eczema by 30-50%.

When it comes to moisturising you babyâs bod, more is more. Donât be shy with how much you use, and apply it twice a day after their bath. Especially in hot or humid environments, creams are always preferred over ointments. Make sure the moisturiser you choose has a high oil content. A moisturiser with too much water it in will evaporate faster off the skin, and cause further drying.

Here is our list of moisturisers for babies and children with eczema.

Eczema is a rash that appears on the skin, typically on the face and limbs. When rashes appear, it is your bodys way of telling you something is wrong and it is trying to detox. The cause of eczema is often difficult to pinpoint since it can be caused by many external irritants like detergents, soaps, pollen, viruses, and temperature change. It is most commonly caused by internal issues with the gut, food intolerances, stress, digestive issues, and hormone imbalances. Eczema can be red, itchy, and it can come and go making it hard to determine the cause.

My son had eczema for a good year before we pinpointed his trigger, which was dairy. He was allergic to casein, the protein in milk. He had a leaky gut due to antibiotics and steroids from when he had RSV as a baby. After two years of a complete diet change, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and essential oils for digestive health and allergies, his eczema disappeared.

This healing salve for eczema is great for soothing and moisturizing dry or itchy skin due to rashes. If eczema is the cause, the GAPS diet or the elimination diet might be worth trying out to help pinpoint the root cause and heal the gut. Be sure to check with your doctor first.

Castor oil is generally safe to use topically it is commonly used as an additive in cosmetic products. Human studies have determined that castor oil has few side effects and is not a significant skin irritant. However, allergic reactions and skin irritation can happen, especially if you have sensitive skin or severe eczema.

Why Coconut Oil For Eczema Works So Well

How To Treat Baby Eczema

Because your little ones skin is already so delicate, and harsh irritants can easily activate eczema, we recommend seeking out natural eczema remedies for babies that are safe and gentle. Our favorite natural eczema remedy is the one and only coconut oil. Our founder, Sweta Doshi, created Bubbsi because organic coconut oil calmed and cleared her newborn daughters eczema – but she found it a mess to use. Here are some of the many reasons why we love coconut oil for eczema.

Reason #1 Why Coconut Oil For Eczema Works: It Protects and Fortifies Babys Skin

Coconut oil is a triple threat against potential pathogens. Its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory. Thats why its frequently applied to the diaper area to prevent unwanted germs and itchy rashes. Coconut oil is primarily composed of medium chain fatty acids or healthy fats such as lauric acid, which makes up almost 50% of the pure oil, and is also found in breast milk. Use coconut oil for eczema as an added layer of protection when your babys immune system goes into overdrive.

Things You Should Do Before Starting With A Massage

Creating a suitable environment is as important as the massage and the massage oil. This is how you can prep up the room before you start massaging your little one:

  • Shut the doors and windows. Put your pet, if any, in another room. Put your phone on silent mode.
  • Set the room temperature to around 24 degrees Celsius.
  • Play soft and relaxing music.
  • Lay your baby on a towel or changing mat.
  • Have at hand the massage oil bottle, hand towels, a change of clothes for both, and a diaper bag.

Improves The Appearance Of Acne

Some people mistakenly believe that oily skin causes acne. This isnt the case. Acne is the result of clogged pores, not oil.

In fact, a healthy level of oil on your skin can keep your skin from becoming irritated, which may prevent breakouts.

And remember that acne isnt only a problem for teenagers and adults. Its not uncommon for babies to develop acne too, so keep your avocado oil close by.

Bath Tip #: Choosing A Sunscreen

Baby Eczema | DOES ALOE HELP?

Sunscreen is not just a summer essential in Australia. Our children should be wearing sunscreen every day that they spend time outdoors. With one exception children under six months of age should have very limited exposure to the sun, as their skin is extremely sensitive to the sunâs rays and to the ingredients in sunscreen itself. Shade and protective clothing are the best ways to sun-proof your infantâs skin.

When finding the right sunscreen, look for a product with mineral-based ingredients such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide . Make sure the product has no fragrance and no alcohol. It should also offer broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays.

Here is our list of sunscreens for babies and children with eczema.

Sunscreens appropriate from 6 months of age

  • Sunsense Sensitive Invisible

How Do You Dilute Essential Oil

Diluting essential oil helps prevent skin irritation as the concentrated amount of essential oil is very strong and can be harsh on the skin, eyes, and nose .

According to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy , the recommended dilution rate for aromatherapy massage for infants and children is:

  • 0.5-1% per 6 teaspoons of carrier oil.

Also, its important to note that essential oil is NOT recommended for infants younger than 3 months old.

Examples of carrier oil include:

Dab A Few Drops Of Avocado Oil On Your Scalp

If youd like to improve the health of your scalp, simply dab a few drops of avocado oil directly onto your head.

If your full head of hair prevents you from getting to your skin, try parting your hair, applying a small amount of oil to the exposed skin, and then repeating the process on another area of your scalp.

Next, gently massage the oil into your scalp using your fingertips . Ahhh. Take a deep breath and enjoy this self-care moment!

Using avocado on the scalp can also help your baby. If they have a dry scalp or a case of cradle cap, just put a few drops of avocado oil on their head and gently rub it in.

How Dry Is Too Dry When To Seek Advice

Babies, particularly newborns, are quite prone to rashes. Most are harmless and will resolve naturally, and not all rashes will turn out to be eczema. However you should always seek the advice of a health professional. Your general practitioner can diagnose eczema, and provide you with an eczema management plan. Prescribed topical steroids play an important part in the management of eczema. More severe cases can treated with wet dressings or bleach baths. Ideally treatment should start treatment before it becomes this severe, which will save your child a lot of suffering and scratching. If we can offer parents a little hope we believe that with proper ongoing management, your childâs eczema can be cleared.
