Who Are Aveeno And Cerave
Aveeno is a brand of skin care and hair care products founded by Albert and Sidney Musher in 1945. It was purchased by Johnson & Johnson in 1999 with the brand expanding into baby care and body wash in 2001.
CeraVe was founded in 2005 and launched their three core products, Moisturizing Cream, Moisturizing Lotion, and Hydrating Cleanser. A relatively new brand on the block that has received more Seal of Acceptance awards from the National Eczema Association than any other brand in the market.
Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream
Why Doctors Love It:
Allergists love that Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream is a thick, smooth moisturizing cream that helps restore and maintain a normal moisture level. It is petrolatum-based, meaning it is gentle and effective on even the youngest skin. But with additional moisturizing ingredients, it is thin enough to go through a pump. Allergists recommend their patients smooth this on after baths and before going out in the sun or cold weather. Because the formula is free of dyes, fragrance, lanolin, parabens and formaldehyde, fewer people report reactions or irritations from Vanicream. It has been awarded the seal of acceptance from the National Eczema Association.
Purified water, petrolatum, sorbitol, cetearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, ceteareth-20, simethicone, glyceryl stearate, PEG-30 stearate, sorbic acid, BHT.
“LOOOOOOOVE THIS!!!!! Bought this cream originally for my infant son instead of using the standard baby lotions. I’m a pediatric nurse and have used so many different types of baby lotions. They weren’t cutting it with his dry skin. I have eczema myself and know that some creams can sting when the skin is cracked. I also like that this cream is thick! Most definitely keeps an awesome moisture barrier. I wish I had discovered this earlier! I will recommend this to everyone I know!!!!!!” – Katherine on Amazon

Cerave Vs Cetaphil: Which Is The Better Moisturizer
Two of the biggest in demand moisturizers in the Ezcema industry that have drawn great attraction from sensitive skin users. Cetaphil boasts being the number 1 sensitive skincare brand by doctors, providing solutions for over 70 years. CeraVe is a relative newcomer, founded in 2005, with rave reviews from the Eczema communities. Which moisturizer is the better option? We will compare their two staple moisturizers and see which reigns supreme in CeraVe vs Cetaphil.
Vaseline 100% Petroleum Jelly
Why Doctors Love It:
Vaseline 100% Petroleum Jelly is a perennial favorite of pediatricians because of its simple ingredients and the thick coat it places over compromised areas of skin. Vaseline is used to heal dry, damaged, or cracked skin and can also provide cover for minor cuts and burns.
Vaseline is also recommended by the National Eczema Association as suitable for use all over including hands, feet, elbows and heels. Almost nothing beats petroleum jelly to lock in moisture after a bath, and parents love that applying it never causes a stinging sensation on baby’s skin. A key to using 100% pure petroleum jelly to treat baby eczema is to spread a thin layer over the skin. Make sure to work into exposed skin on hands and feet. Using too much or not working it into the skin can create a sticky mess that gets onto clothing
100% pure petrolatum.
“I have eczema and always keep Vaseline around to protect my skin. This is a large container that’s perfect to keep in the bathroom for everyday use. It protects my skin better than anything else I’ve found and never irritates it.” – Bobby on Amazon

When Should You Call The Pediatrician
Sometimes a baby eczema cream will solve the problem, but its not always enough, as Dr. Mullan explains. If the above measures are not working and you begin to notice crusty patches on babys skin, it is time to see a doctor, because if it goes untreated, it will get worse. A doctor will be able to prescribe something to help with this.
Here are the nine best baby eczema creams to soothe and moisturize your little ones dry, irritated, itchy skin.
Cerave Vs Cetaphil: Which Is Better
To get an experts opinion on these products, you should consult a dermatologist to get the best possible advice as they are the experts! You should get an allergy test to check whether you are compatible with the ingredients noted.
Personally I had a better reaction to CeraVe than Cetaphil. With CeraVe I saw progression and healing with my Eczema. My skin was still quite dry but the redness and even Cetaphil I had a burning sensation and my skin got very irritated. I trialled the cream on my skin for around 2 weeks but my skin was irritated throughout the process. My skin was red and was very uncomfortable because of the burning sensation.
So if you want a recommendation from me, I would choose CeraVe over Cetaphil. It is a far superior moisturizer for those with sensitive skin with advanced ingredients and a stamp of approval from the National Eczema Association.

Eczema In Babies And Children
Eczema is common in babies and young children as well, and in addition to similar causes and triggers as adults, itchy, inflamed skin in little ones can be due to sweating and saliva on the skin due to drooling.1 Many babies and children eventually outgrow eczema, but its imperative to avoid triggers and manage symptoms until they do. CeraVes baby products feature three essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help moisturize and maintain the skins protective barrier. CeraVe Baby Wash & Shampoo and Baby Moisturizing Creamare gentle, fragrance-free formulas thatprovide the moisture and soothing that young, delicate skin needs.
What Products Should I Avoid If I Have Eczema
You should avoid any ingredients that you have a known allergy to and anything that has irritated your skin previously, Dr. Chan said. Common products that can do this are acne products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. I also would avoid high percentage AHAs.
Be sure to note that developing a skin allergy is higher when you have atopic dermatitis, so avoiding fragrance when you can is a good idea, especially during an active flare.

How We Chose The Best Baby Eczema Creams
So, how do you know which creams are more likely to be effective? Youll want to look for one that doesnt irritate your babys skin.
Youll also want to make sure that it locks in moisture to help treat the current flare-up while providing a barrier to prevent future flare-ups.
When choosing our favorite baby eczema creams, we tried to find ones that had a higher chance of success by considering:
- whether its a cream, lotion, or ointment
- if its fragrance-free
- if its hypoallergenic
Creams tend to be thick and good for all-day use, but they can include allergenic preservatives or fragrances that can make eczema worse.
Ointments tend to be very greasy and are not appropriate for weeping eczema. However, they have a lesser chance of stinging or burning than creams and lotions and tend to be more moisturizing. They may be better tolerated by infants.
Lotions have fewer fats than creams, and theyre usually water-based. This makes them easier to rub into the body but less effective at moisturizing skin.
Just because a cream is organic or natural, it doesnt guarantee its hypoallergenic, so youll want to double-check for that distinction.
Also, we know that price can be a factor, so we made sure to keep that in mind.
