How Discoid Eczema Is Treated
Discoid eczema is usually a long-term problem, but medications are available to help relieve the symptoms and keep the condition under control.

Personally speaking, why do I only get eczema in the spring and summer? My husband and teen-aged son also have an onset of eczema at the same exact time as me, yet two of my younger sons only get eczema in the winter. But why?
I decided to go to the experts for answers because I can’t imagine I’m the only one plagued with wondering why spring sets off two seasons of itchy bumps taking up residence on my elbows, inner corners of my arms and my hands – and the more I scratch, the more it spreads.

How Can I Take Care Of My Skin In The Winter
In our dry climate, staying moisturized is a must. Makinzee says that winter skin needs a little more TLC than a daily lotion. I tell patients to look for thick creams that hold their shape. If you pump it on your skin and it seeps through, it may be too light for the winter. Some of Makinzees favorite daily moisturizers are Cetaphil and CeraVe because they dont contain fragrances or dyes. For very chapped spots like elbows and knuckles, Makinzee says you can go straight for the Vaseline or Aquaphor. Petroleum jellies are really great barriers for rough spots.
Some other measures you can take are getting a humidifier for your bedroom , using a water softener in the winter, and ensuring that your cleansers and moisturizers are gentle .

How To Use Emollients
Use your emollient all the time, even if you are not experiencing symptoms as they can help limit the return of your condition. Many people find it helpful to keep separate supplies of emollients at work or school.
To apply the emollient:
- use a large amount
- don’t rub it in, smooth it into the skin in the same direction that the hair grows instead
- for very dry skin, apply the emollient every two to three hours
- after a bath or shower, gently dry the skin and then immediately apply the emollient while the skin is still moist
If you are exposed to irritants at work, make sure you apply emollients regularly during and after work.
Don’t share emollients with other people.
Social And Sexual Problems
One of the main problems of eczema socially is that there are still many members of the population who think it may be contagious, infectious or unhygienic. Many people with eczema on their hands get embarrassed because they see people staring at them. If you cant say it outright, try and slip into the conversation that you have eczema and that it is neither infectious nor contagious and certainly not unhygienic. You may like to make a joke about how often you have to bathe and how scrupulous you have to be with your laundry and house cleaning. A joke thats not really joke is a very powerful way of getting a message across! If you have eczema on your hands you may find wearing cotton mittens helpful in this respect.
Dont stay away from life or wait until your eczema disappears before you enter it. Friendships are very important to all of us and the person with eczema is no different. You dont have to be the life and soul of the party or go to parties at all if you dont like them. Better to find interests and activities that you enjoy and try and forget about the eczema. This way you can meet kindred spirits, most of whom will be far more interested in you than in your skin condition.

The epidermis consists of keratinocyte cells, which are constantly reproducing then moving upward and being shed as dead skin cells. Will Your Child Have Eczema
The predisposition to eczema is an extended family situation.
