What Body Wash To Use For Eczema

The Best Aveeno Body Wash For Eczema

“Product Review Eczema friendly body wash and soap”

The only Aveeno product line to avoid is the stress relief line because it is not fragrance free and it is targeted more for dry skin. The other lines are all fragrance free and targeted for those with sensitive skin. The Eczema line should be trailed first before the others because it was designed specifically for irritated skin.

It should be noted that all products contains oats. If you have a bad reaction to oats, then you should do a patch test before applying vast amounts. An allergy test can also be taken.

I have personally tried out the daily moisturizing, skin relief and eczema range. The differences is the texture and the aftermath feeling on your skin. In terms of effectiveness, I did not see any difference to my mid severe Eczema. I did however get some relief from the pain caused by my skin.

Neals Yard Remedies Hand Wash

You already know that Neals Yard Remedies is one of my favourite organic skincare brands, but their Garden Mint and Bergamot hand wash is a definite treat for the hands. The formula is non-drying so your sensitive hands will say moisturised and hydrated even after use, and the hand wash is made from 82% organic ingredients. Like many organic products, this hand wash is on the pricier end of the spectrum, but its well worth it to protect your skin.

Aveeno Skin Relief 24

Would you take this product seriously if I told you its clinically proven and dermatologist recommended? Well, all of that is 100 percent true. So it goes without saying that this moisturizing lotion by Aveeno relieves itchy and sensitive skin. No matter how itchy or sensitive!

Its a fast-absorbing, rich body lotion. That doesnt take too long to work its magic. After all, the primary ingredient in here is colloidal oatmeal. Whats so special about colloidal oatmeal? Its a natural, sensitive skin-safe ingredient. That also protects the skin by attracting moisture.

You might already know how oatmeal baths are the best for those with skin sensitivities and allergies. Their enhanced ability for relieving itchy, irritated, and dry skin is quite impressive. So this is exactly what you should look forward to.

Moving on, the 24-hour moisturizing lotion also contains dimethicone and shea butter. Both restore your skins natural moisture levels. Plus, its fragrance-free, which suggests no unnecessary skin irritation either.

If youre looking for any drastic side effects, you can stop now. Cause there arent any, lucky for you.

Many other soaps of this brand have the same certification, but this product is different from the rest. The reason is its content of omega oils. It can soothe dry skin and stop itching and irritation and, very importantly, without being comedogenic due to the presence of these oils.

Additionally, its ceramide content helps repair the skins natural barrier, protecting it from drying out and infection. On the other hand, it contains hyaluronic acid, which attracts the necessary moisture to the surface of the skin.

Of course, it is free of sulfates, detergents, artificial fragrances, and parabens, all of which are the most common irritants.

All these qualities make this soap ultra-soft and suitable for the most delicate skins, such as extra dry, itchy and prone to eczema. Why? Because in addition to cleaning them they also calm them. Want to know more and read user reviews? Just follow the link below.

How To Choose A Body Wash That Is Suitable For Eczema

We have answers for you! Read along.

  • Surfactants are a complete no-no

If your skins protective barrier has one crucial enemy, it is surfactants. Although it is an essential cleansing element, it is incredibly harmful to skin and one of the leading causes of dryness, irritation, and inflammation.

  • Harsh cleansers are to be kept at bay

Harsh chemicals like sulfates and paraben cause the softness of your skin to reduce with every use. Sadly, they are found in most face cleansers, body washes, and soaps today. They not only damage the skins protective barrier but also drain out the proteins and the natural oils.

  • pH balanced formulas are ideal

Maintaining the correct pH balance of the skin is equally important. It should neither be too acidic nor alkaline. Including alkaline products in your skincare regime may damage your skin. Hence, maintaining the right pH balance is crucial.

  • Look for non-soap cleansers

Though non-soap cleansers are recommended for extremely dry or sensitive skin, body washes with non-itchy surfactant elements can be used on eczema-prone skin.

  • NEAs Seal of Acceptance is a must

Keep an eye out for the National Eczema Associations Seal Of Acceptance on the product before buying. The seal proves it has been tested for eczema-prone skin and is safe

What To Look For When Choosing A Body Wash

The Best Eczema Products to Relieve Itch

When shopping for a body wash, Dr. Suzanne Friedler, a board certified dermatologist with Advanced Dermatology, says to look for a formula that contains natural oils and hyaluronic acid, which help replenish moisture.

She also stresses the importance of bathing with warm or lukewarm water and keeping your shower under 10 minutes. For dry, sensitive skin, use body washes only in areas that need extra cleaning and follow bathing immediately with heavy cream or ointment.

If you have sensitive skin or eczema, Dr. Charlotte Birnbaum, a board certified dermatologist with Spring Street Dermatology, recommends being careful about the body wash you choose.

Its important to choose a cleanser that is gentle and fragrance-free to avoid worsening eczema or causing an allergic reaction, she explains.

What Types Of Body Washes To Avoid

As previously mentioned, there are several body washes on the market that should be avoided when suffering from eczema. These are washes that you can find either at the grocery store or pharmacy and claim to be natural when in fact they use a variety of harsh and possibly dangerous chemicals.

Some ingredients you should always avoid when searching for body washes are Diethanolamine, Monoethanolamine and Triethanolamine, commonly referred to as DEAs. These harmful ingredients are usually added to either creamy or sudsy washes and have been classified as causing potential harm to ones health from prolonged exposure.

Its also important to try and stay away from fragrances or dyes, as these chemicals can several exacerbate eczema.

Which Is Better Aveeno Body Wash Or Dove Sensitive Body Wash

From my personal experience, the Dove Sensitive Body Wash is the better out of the two because of the positive results I have seen after continuous use and the ingredients it contains. This is not saying Aveeno is a bad product however.

If you compare both products in terms of ingredients, Dove still comes out on top as Aveeno has sodium laureth sulfate which has many safety hazards involving skin. There is also a lot of evidence that it is a proven irritant. Aveeno also defines itself by using oats, so if you are not compatible with oats, then it is best to avoid the whole brand altogether.

Just remember to read the packaging label correctly to ensure you have the right product. Doves Sensitive Body Wash uses a lighter blue enclosed cap but make sure the packaging is titled the same.

Things To Consider About Eczema Treatment

Treatment generally depends on your skin type and medical history bust most of the time, you will have to combine remedies and a proper hygiene to get your skin clear once more.

Shower Gels Vs Soaps For Eczema: Which One To Choose

Cetaphil PRO Eczema Prone Skin Body Wash 295ml

I am going to deal with this issue assuming a somewhat technical position, or at least I will try.

Soaps are produced by combining liquid fats, be they of animal origin or vegetable oils, with sodium hydroxide or bleach. On the other hand, liquid soaps use the same process, but instead of using sodium hydroxide, they use potassium hydroxide.

Its manufacturing process obeys the purpose for which the product will be used. For example, for a more hydrating effect, soap makers use the super fat process and this is the addition of more liquid fats.

As for transparent soaps, they contain sorbitol and glycerin, while antibacterial ones have added triclosan, which is a compound that kills bacteria and stops the growth of fungi.

As for shower gels, they contain foaming ingredients and betaines, in an aqueous solution According to the experts, one of the functions of the last-mentioned chemical component is to help integrate the mixture.

Although SLS is not carcinogenic, it could irritate the skin when not rinsed properly. So it is best to opt for body cleansers without that compound if you have sensitive skin.

So which one should you use?

For sensitive skin, the answer is shower gel. Because they are water-based, humectants can be easily absorbed.

Of course, the trick to using them is to make sure you get a proper rinse.
