Wash All Clothes Before Wear
This is important, because whether the clothes from a store or a friend, the clothes have traveled around or sat in a box collecting dust. You want to make sure they are clean and in the same detergent your baby is used to.
When it comes to detergents there are many to choose from. When the breakouts initially became noticeable on Oliver, this is the area we started with first.
- Dreft is the most common for infants. I dont have experience with this detergent, but I have heard great comments from parents who use this.
- All Free and Clear is another highly recommended detergent by pediatricians and pediatric dermatologists. Its not the same as other brands with Free and Clear, because the All brand is gentler on their skin due to fewer chemicals. Olivers breakouts subsided a little once we switched over.
Fabric softener and dryer sheets were other areas that can really irritate their skin more than the detergent. We decided to skin fabric softener all together and changed out dryer sheets for wool dryer balls.
Before I move on to the other areas to help and improve your babys skin, I want to point out when changing products your baby uses, do not change them all at once. If you do not space out the products and they ended up having a reaction, you will not know what is causing it. Yes, this may be a long process, but once you figure out the best products for your babies it will all be worth it.

5 MORE TIPS FOR ECZEMA-PRONE SKIN
- Products with harsh chemicals. I’ve seen a reaction in his skin when I put him in the tub after using a cleaner that is not natural. I’ve also seen reactions when he gets his hands on shampoo, lotion or any other skincare product that contains artificial fragrances and ingredients. Ditch dirty products and use natural washes and lotions like this and this ONLY.
- Extreme changes in temperature. I have been surprised just how sensitive Walker is to hot baths and showers. Keep bathwater lukewarm.
- Missing a day of moisturizing. If I neglect to moisturize his skin when it is healthy and smooth he will eventually break out again. So keep on top of their daily skincare routine for the best consistent results.
- Any unseen variables. Swimming pools with chlorine, rough surfaces at the playground, traveling in different sleeping situations are all things that have caused his dry, itchy skin issues to flare. Sometimes he has a reaction and we can’t pinpoint why.
Dry eczema-prone skin is so frustrating and I would never wish it on any family. What triggered my interest in starting Tubby Todd Bath Co. is helping provide the best skincare solutions for our family, and yours. Whether it is about our products or others, I love hearing feedback on what works on dry, itchy skin from other parents because I sincerely hope we can join together in helping our little ones.
Our Favorite Body Wash
We recently tested out a body wash that completely changed my opinion on this one: the Bubbsi Coconut Oil Shampoo & Body Wash. Before finding Bubbsiâs body wash, I had been pretty disappointed with the options. Nothing seemed to really make much of an improvement in moisturizing my childrenâs skin. Sure, some products were more irritating than others, and I certainly avoided those.
However, Bubbsi completely changed my tune on moisturizing body washesâ¦.they do exist! After just one bath, I could see a big improvement in my sonâs skin softness and it was absolutely more moisturized. Coconut Oil is definitely one of the magic ingredients that plays a role, but the wash is also very thick and not very soapy or sudsy. I think all of those elements work together to make an amazing cleanser that also moisturizes amazingly. All of that, plus it comes in an adorable squeezy bottle shaped like a pid that your kiddos will love to play with. And you can purchase refill bottles. Seriously, I canât sing the praises of this body wash enough! Definitely give Bubbsi a shot!

Sensitive Skin And Eczema
Its amazing what you learn with each baby you have and how each of them can be so different. We knew when we had Asher, he may have sensitive skin because both my husband and I do as well. When Oliver was born, we were in for a whole new surprise and experience when it came to skin. I want to share what helps and how to deal with sensitive skin and eczema for infants.
When Asher was born, I wanted to stick to the products we use, as long as they are baby safe. His skin ended up doing great with all the products that were used on him. The one area where he would break out from which brings me to my first point is to wash all clothes before wearing them.

Tubby Todd All Over Ointment Review
I kept seeing everybody raving about this magical Tubby Todd cream, so I decided I need to check this wonder elixir out for myself.
This cream contains plant-based extracts like jojoba, beeswax, and honeysuckle and a bunch of other ingredients that Id feel comfortable rubbing on a newborn.
Popular Tubby Todd Questions
Is Tubby Todd good for eczema?
Many people have had success treating eczema with Tubby Todd, specifically their All Over Ointment. We use it on my daughter to help prevent her eczema from flaring up.
How do you use Tubby Todd All Over Ointment?
Rub as much as is needed on your baby’s dry skin. I suggest starting with a small amount and adding more if needed because a little goes a long way with this product.
Does Tubby Todd help with cradle cap?
The All Over Ointment is what finally cleared up my son’s cradle cap. To remove it we used the hair and body wash to wash his hair, scrubbed it with a soothing cradle cap brush, then applied Tubby Todd All Over Ointment to his scalp after the bath. It was gone after one use of the All Over Ointment.

Shampoo / Body Wash / Lotion
This is one area I choose to make sure I use the same brand for all. When you are washing infants, shampoo and body wash is the same product youll use on them. Its not until they are older you will start using two different bottles.
- We started with Aveeno which I love for my oldest, it cleans well and is gentle on his skin. Unfortunately, it did not work for Oliver.
- I moved on to Dove White Soap on Oliver as this one is highly recommended. Once again, it did not work for Olivers skin, it actually made his skin worse.
- The third brand we tried was Eucerin. Another highly recommended product by pediatric dermatologists especially for infants with eczema and sensitive skin. We didnt notice any immediate breakouts which were a great sign. We continued to use this product to finally see small improvements on his skin.
- A couple of other brands that are recommended are CeraVe, Cetaphil, Tubby Todd. Ill discuss Tubby Todd a little later in the post.
Our Favorite Diaper Rash Cream
If you are looking for a clean option that gets the job done, I have to recommend that you try out Tubby Toddâs Sweet Cheeks Diaper Rash Cream. It is a fragrance free thick paste that does a great job sealing out moisture to help with treating and preventing diaper rash. This is hands-down the best diaper rash cream that we have used. Another fantastic alternative that I used a lot with my first baby is the tried and true Triple Paste Medicated Ointment. I bought this in the huge tub-like jars and always kept some on hand.

Mom To Mom Guide On Managing My Childs Eczema
Here is the plan that as a parent, I wish I would have known when we first realized my son had eczema. There is NO one size fits all approach to managing a childs eczema and depending on how mild to severe and the location of your childs eczema, you may or may not feel compelled to consider the following options. I am outlining these notes based on our experiences and again, encourage you to check with your childs pediatrician, dermatologist, and/or allergist when considering any changes to your current approach. Information on eczema in children, the best treatment options, and the potential for dietary intervention to assist in the management of eczema are constantly changing. I encourage you to reach out to a pediatric dietitian trained in eczema or a Certified LEAP Therapist for additional support in the area of your childs diet.
Would I Recommend Tubby Todd All Over Ointment
Yep, I would. Its isnt cheap at $16 for a 3.5 oz jar but I am willing to pay for something that isnt full of garbage and that actually works. I wish I had it back when I had newborns to put it to the baby acne test but I was impressed enough with it from my own use. I would definitely add it to my routine and would happily give it as a gift to anyone with a new kiddo.
If youd like to check it out for yourself, you can find the Tubby Todd All Over Ointment on the Tubby Todd website. You can buy the All Over Ointment on its own or with one of their popular bundles that comes with products like their bubble bath, Lavender and Rosemary Hair + Body wash, etc.
If youve tried it, Id love to hear what you thought of it.

How Much Does It Cost
Tubby Todd products cost more that the average baby skincare product. You can save some money by buying the bundles and getting a few products at a time. In the small size the All Over Ointment costs $16, the Hair and Body was costs $15, the Everyday Lotion costs $15, The Dream Cream costs $16, and the Bubble Bath costs $15.
Our Favorite Petroleum Jelly Replacement
Vaseline or petroleum jelly is a by-product of oil refinement, and not eco-friendly at all. Enter Bubbsiâs Coconut Oil Balm. Itâs natural, safe and based on coconut oil instead of being a byproduct of oil refinement. I love to use this stuff of chapped lips, red itchy patches or dry scaly elbows and ankles. It seals in the moisture really well and smells great. Iâll often apply this on top of regular lotion as a way to lock in the moisture and create a barrier.

What Causes Eczema In Babies
Eczema is currently on the rise in the United States, Canada, and other countries. Many people have theories about why the skin condition is on the rise, such as:
- The overuse of sterile environments that dont prepare or build a babys immune system.
- An increase in inflammatory foods, such as fried foods, processed meats, and refined sugars.
- The common overuse of antibiotics, which has created antibiotic resistance and an affected immune system.
- Cleaning products that contain artificial fragrances and irritants.
What officially causes eczema in babies is still debated, but research shows that genetic factors may play a role in whether your baby develops eczema. If at least one parent has eczema, the child is two to three times more likely to have it as well.
However, genetics arent always a factor because many babies develop eczema without any family history of this condition. I can tell you that neither my husband nor I had eczema and our second baby did. So this didnt apply to us.

What Triggers Eczema Flareups In Babies
Normal, healthy skin provides a barrier to prevent moisture from leaving the skin and stops irritants from getting inside. Babies with eczema have skin that doesnt have a proper barrier function and their immune system tends to react strongly to irritants especially those that enter through the skin leading to itchy, red, and broken skin.
Eczema can come and go during a flareup, the skin can break open, ooze, and crust over. Eczema also means that your little ones skin may be drier and easily irritated by temperature, clothing, and other external triggers.
Common eczema triggers include:
