What Does Fasting Do

How To Get Rid of Eczema FAST – MissFitAndNerdy Video Review

According to a Harvard article, The entire idea of IF is to allow the insulin levels to go down far enough and for long enough that we burn off our fat. Insulin, a hormone created in the pancreas, is the only way sugar can enter our cells. When our bodies take time to break down the foods we eat, as long as we dont snack, our insulin levels will decrease and the fat cells will then release the stored sugar and use it as energy. Not only does weight loss occur when insulin levels are down, but so does a decrease in inflammation.1 However, this easy-flow process normally occurs in those who have a healthy gut. But what about those who don’t?

Why Fasting Is Necessary

Over the years, we have been plagued by the chronic accumulation of:

  • Cellular waste materials
  • Modern dietary excess
  • Frequent contact with industrial chemicals, environmental pollution
  • Physiological stress burdens

But we have an immune system.

The body is continuously dealing with the toxic load, as we are feeding it more. When the body is unable to fend off, and is weak up to a point, autoimmune diseases like eczema arise. Even if you dont have a health issue or a seemingly minor problem, its just going to get worse if you dont care. Trust me, its not worth dismissing your health. Ive had conversations with many fellow readers and many of them exclaim Ive never had a problem in the past, but suddenly I have eczema, what do I do? Then they are crippled by the problem day and night.

Dont be the next.

Rapidly rising numbers of autoimmune diseases is no new fact. Implicitly, more and more of us are losing the balance and the body cant keep up.

Fasting puts the body at proper rest for a focused recovery.

We fast during sleep every day, until we eat again during the day. When digestion occurs again, it disrupts the natural recovery process . Energy is the bodys currency, and digestion takes up to 50% of the bodys energy.

Our goal is to halt digestion and thus divert this digestive energy directly into recovery.

Not to mention 80% of our immune system is our digestive system . Hence, the massive benefit of letting it rest.

Fasting Has Saved My Life: Former Eczema Sufferer

Poh Siok Khoon, ex-general manager of Our Place International

Poh Siok Khoon, 48, used to suffer from severe eczema that left her hands and feet sore. Doing things like wearing her slippers and playing the piano were excruciatingly painful for her.

Desperate to find a cure for the disease, the former general manager of a health lifestyle organisation sought help from a dermatologist.

When that failed to improve her condition, she decided to fly to Hong Kong to consult a famous sinseh, or traditional Chinese physician. Using traditional Chinese medicine helped ease her pain to an extent, but Poh was determined to find a cure for her eczema.

In 2000, Poh turned to a practice that is commonly associated with believers of Islam and other religions: fasting. It was to transform her life – within two weeks of fasting, her eczema subsided significantly.

Fasting saved my life and I apply the principles of fasting in my daily life. I have overcome eczema, stomach flu and other health issues, and I am thankful for the general good health for the last 16 years, Poh said. She is among a group of Singaporeans interviewed by Yahoo Singapore who fast primarily for health reasons.

P V Anthony, 49, began fasting three years ago to manage his weight, and the benefits began to show in a short span of time.

Fasting makes it easier for me to see clearly what I really want to do in my life. It has helped me feel more positive and excited about life, said Anthony.

How To Water Fast

Ive fasted three time in total and Ive actually read books on the topic so you can trust me on this. No wordy content. In short:

  • Pre-fast. Depending on your current diet, you will need to gradually restrict it into a healthy diet of at least 4 bans: gluten, dairy, sugar, chemicals . Do this for at least 2 weeks. The goal is to lessen the detox effects from otherwise rapidly jumping into a water fast. After this, you should do a short one-digit-day fast before you do an extended one.
  • Beginning. You must have your schedule off entirely to your ability to rest at home. Remember to spare extra post-fast days.
  • Fasting. Rest as much as possible. Drink only water, and when thirsty.
  • Breaking. First day, take 1 fistful amount of low-fiber fruit juices at 2-hour intervals. Common options: orange, watermelon, melon. Next day and so on, increase the time in between intervals and consumption.
  • Post-fast. Slowly reintroduce foods, in the order: fruit juices, whole fruits, raw vegetables, starch-heavy vegetables, meats.
  • Breaking and post-fast days are critical because your digestive system begins to recolonize its bacterial colony !

    Importance Of Eczema Treatment

There is growing evidence that allergens introduced into the body through the skin can lead to the later development of food allergy, asthma and hay fever. Aggressively treating eczema in children and taking steps to restore normal skin barrier function may lower the risk of future development of these conditions.

Sometimes. Some people do have a specific intolerance or allergy to something in particular, and that can cause eczema outbreaks, says family medicine specialist Saadia Hussain, MD, who likens it to someone whose asthma is triggered by allergies.

If they come across a certain type of plant, something in the environment, or a certain type of animal dander, their asthma will act up. Its the same thing with eczema, says Dr. Hussain. There could be something that their body just doesnt react well to and when that happens, they get an eczema outbreak.

Digging into which specific foods trigger eczema symptoms is more difficult because everybody has different sensitivities. What bothers you and causes an eczema flare might not have a similar effect on someone else.

However, Dr. Hussain says anything with anti-inflammatory properties is good for most inflammatory skin conditions, a category that includes eczema, psoriasis and dyshidrotic eczema. For example, spices like turmeric and ginger are known for their anti-inflammatory benefits.

My Experience With A 3 & 5 Day Water Fast

I had been reading a little bit about fasting and specifically water fasting and wanted to give a go. Im always looking into natural remedies that I can try out, and fasting is one of the best ways to give our bodies a break and let it heal on its own. Just days before my 3 day fast, I was an oozy mess. My legs were sticking to my sheets and I was having this uncomfortable, achy, heavy pain in both of my legs and feet. That odd throbbing pain seems to happen when the skin is cracked, open and oozing. My skin also itched and flaked a decent amount the night before the first day of the 3 day fast, and shed even more the morning of.

Before I go into my experience, let me give you some info on why in the world someone would want to go days without food, only consuming water, and how to do it safely.

Fasting isnt an unnatural process. People have been doing it for thousands of years for healing, religious reasons, to reach a higher spiritual level and more. When you think about it, we actually fast every day when we sleep. When we start to eat again and digestion starts to take place, the natural recovery process is disrupted. Its said that we should look to the animals and how they live. When animals are sick they literally fast to heal themselves . When we come down with the flu and whatnot its actually best to not eat much or nothing at all and let our bodies heal on their own.

    Fasting is not starvation:

    Night Before 3 Day Fast:

DAY 1 : I found the first day to be not that difficult. I felt some hunger pains around 11am, and again around 6ish but all in all not too bad. When those pains did come, I just chugged some more water and it went away. I slept a lot, stayed quiet, rested and also meditated. I had felt a slight headache coming on but its a normal symptom.

DAY 2 : I was awake for a few hours at about four in the morning because I was super itchy. A lot of the dead skin flakes was coming off like the night before. I still didnt have intense hunger pains, which is a great thing. I did notice that sometimes if I had bent my head down, I felt a bit light headed when coming back up. A great side effect I noticed was that my face felt softer and the skin on my lips was peeling off a lot, leaving soft skin! Must be all the lovely hydration! I did have a little moment of weakness and wanted to break my fast in the evening, but I pushed through!

DAY 3 : I definitely felt like I needed more rest when I got up this morning because I was awake for awhile, just itchy the night before. My stomach was growling like crazy when I woke up, but drinking some water quelled the hunger and I was good to go!

I for sure felt that just doing this 3 day water fast has been helpful. I felt that my legs were shedding a lot, my skin became softer and more hydrated and the raw stubborn spots on my fingers had finally cleared up!

    Why Did I Fast

As some of you might know, I stopped updating CES since last August because I was turning Year 12, in heavy-homework mode and exam preparation. And like how my eczema returned in Year 11, it did so again in my exam preparation period. I would have 3 coffees a day just to function. In short, Ive graduated now and have time to update CES and respond to emails. I have much more to update especially in a change of the healing philosophy and begin to understand eczema at a deeper level. This water fast was a kick-start to healing the damages Ive done over the last school year. If you are still here, thank you for staying along. Ill continue to make my findings as useful as possible.

    Stories Of Atopic Dermatitis

While symptoms of contact dermatitis disappear once you avoid the offending irritant, its tough to say when atopic dermatitis will go away or if it ever will. If your child has atopic dermatitis , theres a chance that the disease will calm down considerably by the time theyre an adult, says Dr. Silverberg. More severe cases, however, are also more likely to persist.

Therefore, its tough to say how long eczema lasts. The important take-home is that we cannot assume that atopic dermatitis will magically disappear. We need to develop treatment plans that are appropriate and safe for long-term use, Silverberg says. The lack of this type of plan is common, though, and it leaves many patients frustrated and prone to misinformation and phony cures in regards to their condition.

How Long Does It Take For Perioral Dermatitis To Clear Up

I did everything I could to eliminate triggers at home for half a year and I used a prescription metronidazole cream for months. Nothing had worked, and the rash had only continued to spread. For those of you asking how to get rid of perioral dermatitis overnight, the answer is: you cant.

My doctor gave me a three-month prescription of doxycycline. My doctor, who had battled her own case of perioral dermatitis in the past, explained that this condition has a way of coming back if you cease treatment before its completely gone, so she told me tocontinue taking the antibiotics for at least two months, or until the rash had been clear for a full two weeks.

She also told me to continue using the metronidazole cream until the rash had cleared.

I started noticing a difference in my symptoms about two weeks into my antibiotics course. The irritation was down and the redness was receding. My skin no longer looked constantly inflamed.

It was about five weeks before the rash had cleared completely, so I continued my antibiotics for the recommended two-month course. After stopping treatment, the rash stayed away.

In the months that followed, I slowly started adding products I had removed back into my skincare routine. I started with eye makeup. And then my favorite exfoliator. And eventually, I felt comfortable wearing a full face of makeup again, without fear of a flare.

I never did add back in my anti-aging creams, though. I decided Id rather have wrinkles than a rashy face.
