How Triamcinolone Is Used For Eczema
This particular cream should only be used on the skin. However, it should never be used on the underarms, face or groin unless this is determined by your doctor. Your hands for be washed and dried first. The skin area should be cleaned and dry. Just use a thin film of the cream and rub it in gently. It can be used anywhere from two to four times a day. Never bandage, wrap or cover the skin area. It can even be used on an infant, but never use plastic pants or diapers that are tight fitting.
Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream. If the cream does need to be applied near the eyes, be very careful not to get it into the eyes. Also, never get it into the mouth or nose. If this occurs, use water and rinse well.
Only use this cream as prescribed and not use it for a period longer than prescribed. Always let the doctor know if the skin gets worse or does not improve after use.

- If you are using a moisturiser along with this preparation, apply the moisturiser first. Then wait 10-15 minutes before applying Aureocort® ointment. This allows time for the moisturiser to be absorbed before the topical corticosteroid is applied. Your skin should be moist but not slippery when you apply Aureocort®.
- Do not use Aureocort® on your face unless a skin specialist doctor has said you should. If you have been told to use it on your face, be careful not to get any preparation near your eyes and do not use it for longer periods of time than you have been advised.
- Unless advised to do so by your doctor, do not apply a bandage or dressing to the area being treated, as this will increase absorption of the preparation and increase the risk of side-effects.
- Continue to use Aureocort® until the flare-up has gone and then stop it. A course of treatment for seven days is usually sufficient. If your symptoms have not improved after this time , speak again with your doctor for further advice. Topical corticosteroids like triamcinolone should not be used for long periods of time or on large areas of the body.
- Be careful not to let the preparation come into contact with your clothing, as it may stain.

Frequency Of Administration And Duration Of Treatment
Once-or twice-daily application is recommended for most preparations.21 More frequent administration does not provide better results.27 The optimal dosing schedule can be determined by trial and error, titrating to the minimum frequency of application that still provides relief.
Chronic application of topical steroids can induce tolerance and tachyphylaxis. Ultra-high-potency steroids should not be used for more than three weeks continuously.21 If a longer duration is needed, the steroid should be gradually tapered to avoid rebound symptoms, and treatment should be resumed after a steroid-free period of at least one week. This intermittent schedule can be repeated chronically or until the condition resolves. Side effects are rare when low- to high-potency steroids are used for three months or less, except in intertriginous areas, on the face and neck, and under occlusion.21
The amount of steroid the patient should apply to a particular area can be determined by using the fingertip unit method.28 A fingertip unit is defined as the amount that can be squeezed from the fingertip to the first crease of the finger. Table 3 describes the number of fingertip units needed to cover specific areas of the body.28 One hand-size area of skin requires 0.5 fingertip units or 0.25 g of steroid. The amount dispensed and applied should be considered carefully because too little steroid can lead to a poor response, and too much can increase side effects.

What Is Occlusive Dressing Technique
To treat recalcitrant conditions like psoriasis, this technique is used. A small amount of cream is gently rubbed in the lesion till it is absorbed by the skin. Reapply a thin coating after that and cover the edges with the nonporous plastic film.
