Bacterial Vaginosis And Vaginal Yeast Infections

In one study, researchers compared calendula ointment to metronidazole in 80 women who had been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. After one week, both groups were cured of bacterial vaginosis and none had any side effects.

The researchers concluded that if people wanted to avoid taking medications to treat bacterial vaginosis, calendula ointment could be an option.

One study published in Women and Health found that calendula cream was effective for treating vaginal yeast infections, but that it did not work as fast as the standard medication that’s used to treat them.

There have been claims that calendula can be used to treat symptoms related to menstruation or even used to induce a period, but more research is needed.

Calendula For Dry And Crepey Skin

The skin’s oil production decreases over time, and older adults often experience excessively dry skin as a result. In addition, older adults are more likely to have chronic diseases such as diabetes and they are also less likely to drink adequate fluids daily, both of which can have a negative impact on the skin. Our new My Girls face serum based on the original My Girls cream formula is enriched with Kakadu Plum Vitamin C Extract along with increased Vitamin B5 for brightening and plumping dry skin that has become dull and needs a boost of rejuvination. This rich serum is also a great primer under makeup as it diminishes fine lines and leaves skin smooth for makeup application.

Wounds And Pressure Ulcers

Pin on Home Remedy

Studies in animals have shown that calendula might help with wound healing, but what about in humans? Here is what research has shown:

  • A study published in The Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care looked at the effectiveness of calendula ointment on Cesarean-section scars in 72 women. Compared to getting the standard hospital treatment for the wound, the women who were treated with calendula ointment healed faster and reported that their incisions were less red and swollen.
  • In a 2016 study published in The Journal of Wound Care, researchers used Calendula officinalis extract on people with venous ulcers on their legs. The researchers measured “healing velocity” in a week and found that the people who were treated with calendula had a 7.4% healing velocity, while the people who did not use the extract only had a healing velocity of about 1.7%. The researchers also noted that there weren’t any bad side effects of using the extract.
  • Other studies have suggested that using a calendula spray in addition to standard care and hygiene might prevent infection and decrease odor in people with long-term foot ulcers from diabetes.

Maybe we need to step back a moment. How about, what is a salve?. A salve is simply the term for a healing solution that you put on your skin, including creams, ointments, or balms. Generally, salves are fairly thick, shelf-stable, and include nourishing oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, or others. Along with a base oil , salves also typically contain natural waxes or butters to bind the ingredients and make them semi-solid at room temperature.

Beeswax is a popular binding agent because it is readily available, easy to work with , and creates perfectly smooth results. Not keen on beeswax? See the ingredient list below for recommended vegan substitutions. When calendula oil is used in a salve recipe voila! Youve got yourself some stellar calendula salve.

Calendula Is Good For Sunburns

The flower heads of calendula can be made into an ointment or tea, and they are often used to treat mild sunburn. Babies have sensitive skin and are more prone to sunburns than adults. Calendula’s anti-inflammatory properties help to soothe irritated skin, and the plant’s antioxidants seem to protect the skin from further damage. Although there is limited scientific research showing the benefits of calendula for sunburns, anecdotal evidence regarding the same is quite strong.

Calendula can be found in many over-the-counter products, or it can be grown at home and used fresh. When applied to your baby’s skin, in the form of a cooled tea or oil, calendula can provide relief from the pain and discomfort of sunburn. However, make sure your baby doesn’t try to lick the calendula oil or tea.

Please note that it’s important to take your baby to the doctor if the sunburn is more than mild!

Q: How Do You Treat Atopic Dermatitis With Chinese Herbal Therapy

Organic Calendula Flower helps for anti

A: First of all, its important to keep in mind that atopic dermatitis is, as the name implies, an atopicallergicdisease. Readers are certainly aware of this because they use antihistamines and topical steroids, both of which are generally staples of the medicine cabinet for allergic diseases.

AD is usually the first step in the allergic march that is often followed by a succession of environmental allergies, asthma, and food allergies. However, antihistamines and steroids do not get to the heart of the matter, which is that allergic diseases result when there is an imbalance between the parts of the immune system.

With TCM, we try to modulate these imbalances using a combination of lotions, creams, baths, teas, pills, and sometimes acupuncture and acupressure, which calm the immune system so that it eventually becomes less reactive.

Because the skin often has open sores and damaged tissue, we also use traditional herbal treatments for burns.

It is fundamental to TCM that we treat the whole body. Organ systems are not independent of one another. This has been borne out by the recent research on how eczematous skin may be an induction point for allergens like peanuts and may sensitize infants who have never eaten these allergens.

Treating the whole body is not easy or quick. That said, the skin frequently does improve much more rapidly than other allergic diseases that are being treated.

To relieve diaper rash, you can try applying a small amount of calendula oil on its own or mixed with aloe vera on the affected area a few times per day.

Eczema In Infants And Children

It is very distressing for parents to see their toddlers and infants suffer from eczema. According to the National Eczema Association, around 10% of all infants in the U.S. suffer from some form of infant eczema.2

The appearance of infant eczema is different from eczema in older children and adults. Depending on the age of your infant, patches of eczema appear in different places. According to the National Eczema Association, the stages of infant eczema are as follows:2

  • Babies under 6 months. Red patches of weepy skin around your babys face and on the scalp.
  • Babies from 6 to 12 months. Patches of eczema develop around the elbows and knees. If these patches become infected, then pus bumps can occur which turn crusty when the pus dries.
  • Toddlers from 2 to 5 years. Your toddlers eczema thickens and have the appearance of dry, scaly, and inflamed skin. Outbreaks of eczema may be more common around the mouth and eyelids.

Calendula For Fine Lines And Wrinkles

As you age, your skin changes with you. Lifestyle, sun exposure, and diet can all play a role in the way your skin changes over time. Some of the most common skin changes that older adults notice include wrinkles and fine lines, age or sun spots, loss of fullness beneath the skin, and excessive dryness. Fine lines and wrinkles often first appear between the age of 30 and 40 and are most likely to appear where natural creases occur during facial expression. Areas where wrinkles are common are between the eyebrows, at the corners of the eyes, and alongside the mouth.

You can prevent or prolong the development of these skin changes by avoiding smoking and taking care of your skin throughout the years. Although its never too late to start, it is best practice to cleanse and moisturize twice daily while young. Later on when the skin requires more moisture, it is best to cleanse gently and use richer moisturizers such as My Grls Cream and our new My Girls Calendula Butter Cream for when your skin needs a little more comfort.

Abstract

Introduction. Diaper dermatitis is a common inflammatory disorder among children and infants. The objective of the present randomized and double-blind trial was to compare the therapeutic efficacies of Aloe vera cream and Calendula officinalis ointment on the frequency and severity of DD in children. Methods. Sixty-six infants with DD were randomized to receive either Aloe cream or Calendula ointment . Infants were treated with these drugs 3 times a day for 10 days. The severity of dermatitis was graded at baseline as well as at the end of trial using a 5-point scale. The adverse effects of study medications were assessed during the trial. Results. Although improvement in the severity of DD was observed in both treatment groups , patients receiving Calendula ointment had significantly fewer rash sites compared to Aloe group . No adverse effect was reported from either of the medications. Discussion. The evidence from this study suggests that topical Aloe and in particular Calendula could serve as safe and effective treatment for the treatment of diaper dermatitis in infants.
