Squamous Cell Carcinoma Early Stages

The second most common form of cancer in the skin is squamous cell carcinoma. At first, cancer cells appear as flat patches in the skin, often with a rough, scaly, reddish, or brown surface. These abnormal cells slowly grow in sun-exposed areas. Without proper treatment, squamous cell carcinoma can become life-threatening once it has spread and damaged healthy tissue and organs.

Narrowing Down The Cause

One key to finding the cause of your rash is to observe how long the rash persists. A rash that keeps coming back may be related to hay fever, rather than temporary exposure to something.

Also, what time of year does the rash normally appear? If you notice youre developing recurring rashes consistently during certain seasons , it may be related to the pollens of that season. This is known as seasonal allergies.

Note that allergic reactions arent limited to the pollens in the spring. Fall allergies are common and, in some areas, trees and certain plants grow in the winter and summer that can cause skin irritation. Ragweed and grass can cause hay fever during spring and summer, the two best-known seasons for allergy problems.

Symptoms Of Discoid Eczema

Discoid eczema causes distinctive circular or oval patches of eczema. It can affect any part of the body, although it does not usually affect the face or scalp.

The first sign of discoid eczema is usually a group of small spots or bumps on the skin. These then quickly join up to form larger patches that can range from a few millimetres to several centimetres in size.

On lighter skin these patches will be pink or red. On darker skin these patches can be a dark brown or they can be paler than the skin around them.

Initially, these patches are often swollen, blistered and ooze fluid. They also tend to be very itchy, particularly at night.

Over time, the patches may become dry, crusty, cracked and flaky. The centre of the patch also sometimes clears, leaving a ring of discoloured skin that can be mistaken for ringworm.

You may just have 1 patch of discoid eczema, but most people get several patches. The skin between the patches is often dry.

Patches of discoid eczema can sometimes become infected. Signs of an infection can include:

  • the patches oozing a lot of fluid
  • a yellow crust developing over the patches
  • the skin around the patches becoming hot, swollen and tender or painful
  • feeling sick

Once we identify nummular eczema and treat it appropriately, most people are significantly better within seven to 10 days, and, for patients who dont have another type of eczema, it often never comes back, according to Dr. Peter Lio, founding director of the Chicago Integrative Eczema Center. Even in those for whom this is a manifestation of their underlying atopic dermatitis, the nummular aspect seems to disappear quickly and then we can go back to overall management.

Medical Treatment For Eczema

Journey to Healing Eczema Naturally Pt3: Black Seed Oil, Dr.Sebi, Some Progress!

Eczema cant be cured. But it can be managed by preventing and treating flare-ups as soon as they appear.

If your childs skin is inflamed and itchy, theyll probably need some corticosteroid ointment or cream. For mild eczema, you can buy mild corticosteroids over the counter at your pharmacy. The most common is hydrocortisone 1% cream. For more serious eczema or if the over-the-counter products arent working, youll need to see your GP to get a prescription for a stronger corticosteroid.

Other eczema treatments include pimecrolimus, a non-steroidal cream. Doctors might prescribe this cream for children with mild to moderate eczema on the face and in body folds.

If your child is scratching at a rash, you could ask your pharmacist or GP about using an antihistamine medication for a few days. Together with a corticosteroid cream, this might give your child some rest and help the flare-up to settle.

If your childs eczema rash gets infected, your doctor will prescribe a course of oral antibiotics.

Which Symptoms Are Different For Darker Skin Tones

One of the biggest concerns for people with darker skin who have eczema is splotchy changes in skin color, or discoloration. Whether from scratching or from the eczema itself, darker skin tones can darken further or lighten . Hyperpigmentation is especially common in children with darker skin.

Your doctor can treat your eczema and inflammation, and that should help reverse your skin changes. But it can take several months for your skin to get better, even after your eczema goes away.

Initial color changes from eczema may be harder to see, however. Instead of the clear bright red that shows up on lighter skin, eczema on darker skin tends to show up as purple, grayish, or darker brown patches. That can make it harder to see for both you and your doctor.

Itching from eczema may be more of an issue for African Americans. Theyâre also more likely to have serious forms of the condition.
