My son is 11 months has eczema since 2 months, I have tried so many different creams it is different for every child. I recently tried Bepanten nappy cream and it works really well I havent had to use steroid creams since. I also use Oilatum in his bath. His pediatrician says he should grow out of it by 2/3

  • Me too! 13 Nov 2020

My one year old has had eczema since he was born It progressed from milk spots to dermatitis to eczema. I went to the doctor and then onto a dermatologist. I have tried many different things and found that the things that work the best for us are:

-Keep baby cool, dont overdress, same as you or less if the hot baby.-Mild cortisone cream on the bad bits.-Barrier cream twice a day we have two baths and put on just after. I use a big jar of soft paraffin just from the chemist it is cheaper than a lot of the creams because we use so much and less sticky than Vaseline.-I avoid soaps as they do tend to dry out the skin.-It also gets worse if he has some foods so keep an eye on that too.

Good luck! Fingers crossed they both grow out of it.

Ive heard petroleum jelly can be used, but check with your Dr. first. Also, dont wear tight-fitting clothing on the affected area.

Try The Soak And Seal Method

Incredible transformation of mum who overcame eczema so agonising it ...

On your mark, get set, go! Anytime I read about the soak and seal method I always think of a pit stop during a NASCAR race. Think of yourself as a one-person pit crew: Youve got a set amount of time to hop out of the shower or bathtub, lightly dab yourself dry, and apply moisturizer. Its literally a race against the clock, but this method helps to seal in the moisture, which your skin can never seem to get enough of.

    What Does It Look Like

The signs of eczema in infants include itchy, dry and scaly skin, redness and swelling of the skin and small bumps that open and weep when scratched. In infants and young children, eczema is usually found on the face, outside of the elbows, and on the knees.

In older children and adults, eczema tends to be on the hands and feet, the arms, and on the back of the knees.Keep in mind that all patches of dry skin are not eczema. The cold, dry outdoor air and indoor heating can dry all babies skin in winter, causing dry patches. In children prone to dry skin, so can the sun, air conditioning, and pool and salt water.

We dermatologists usually say if its not itchy, its not eczema you cant make a diagnosis of eczema unless there is an itchiness that goes with the rash. Babies with cradle cap, also known as seborrheic dermatitis, can also have a wide-spread rash, which is not eczema in itself. But it is common for cradle cap and eczema to co-exist in the first several months of life.

    Facing Other Conditions Alongside Eczema

Stephens most difficult health battle since being diagnosed as an adult came when he stopped using an immuno-suppressant drug which had meant he spent four months of the Covid-19 pandemic in near-total isolation shielding, working from home and being unable to see anybody.

Within a fortnight of coming off the medicine he had lost all his hair, and has now been diagnosed with alopecia.

Coping with this on top of his skin condition has been a real challenge for his mental health.

Stephen said: It continues to be very difficult. It was a real shock at first.

Ive only recently built up the courage to update my social media picture and share it with people who arent close to me.

Ive been hiding behind hats and not going out very much.

Only my close circle of friends and family knew, and people at work knew about it too. You could wear a hat in work, but I chose not to.

On occasions the eczema flares up and gets your face and you can imagine how difficult that can be, being seen in public with red, dry, angry blotches on your face. It can be hard to muster up the courage to go outside and see people in the real world.

    Stories Of Atopic Dermatitis

While symptoms of contact dermatitis disappear once you avoid the offending irritant, its tough to say when atopic dermatitis will go away or if it ever will. If your child has atopic dermatitis , theres a chance that the disease will calm down considerably by the time theyre an adult, says Dr. Silverberg. More severe cases, however, are also more likely to persist.

Therefore, its tough to say how long eczema lasts. The important take-home is that we cannot assume that atopic dermatitis will magically disappear. We need to develop treatment plans that are appropriate and safe for long-term use, Silverberg says. The lack of this type of plan is common, though, and it leaves many patients frustrated and prone to misinformation and phony cures in regards to their condition.

    This Is Kellys Eczema Experience:

My son has had pretty severe eczema his entire life. We have always used prescription creams to keep it clear, but he dreaded the medicine because it burned and stung whenever we used it. Non Prescription creams have never been able to touch it. The last 2 years his condition has been very mild the doctor said he had probably grown out of it. A few months ago it appeared again out of the blue and it was worse than ever. I was given TrueLipids® Eczema Experts Anti-Itch 1% Hydrocortisone Barrier Cream by Kristina. I was super skeptical, because Ive never had a non prescription cream work, but I was so happy with the results. The biggest plus for my son was the fact that it didnt sting or burn when he put it on! We were diligent and used it every day. After day 2 I could see a huge difference. After a week the eczema was gone, leaving only the usual scarring from his itching behind. We used it for another week just to be sure, than began using the TrueLipids® Relieve & Protect Ointment. It has stayed clear and he hasnt had any recurrences.

Medication Is Often Necessary To Treat Severe Ad

Patients with severe AD often need medication along with skin care and trigger avoidance to get relief.

Medication that you apply to your skin may be part of your treatment plan. To increase how well this medication works, your dermatologist may recommend that you apply the medication and then cover your skin with a gauze bandage or wet pajamas.

Only cover your skin if your dermatologist recommends it. For this to be safe and effective, proper technique is essential.

    Follow a treatment plan

For treatment to work, you must follow your treatment plan.

If you have severe AD, stronger medication may be required. One option for treating severe AD is light treatments. Your dermatologist may call this phototherapy.

For phototherapy to be effective, you must go to a treatment center 2 to 3 times per week for several weeks. For this reason, light treatments may not be a realistic option for some people.

Another option may be to take medication that works throughout the body.

    The Beginning Of Healing //

I started obsessively looking forward to my Panchakarma at Surya Spa in hopes that Ayurveda would heal my rashes. Read that post to learn all about how it helped in some significant ways, but even after the PK ended I was still inflamed AF and super uncomfortable.

It even made my PK pretty uncomfortable at times, because if you can imagine getting a hot herbal oil massage that is supposed to feel so amazing you can drift off to outer space, but youre stuck here in an ragingly itchy body having the experience.

All in all the experience was very healing for me on a mind, body, soul level but the rash still had a lot of work to do.

Meanwhile I was getting weekly or twice weekly acupuncture sessions with Dr. Kara which seemed to be helping to cool my blood but then again, only in a minor way. For what its worth, Kara has been encouraging me all along to suck it up and take the steroids, because in her words, No one should have to suffer this much.

Which is true. But I still havent done it because I am holding out to cure it naturally. I feel in my heart and soul that its possible, and I know if I take an oral steroid and it goes away then I will never know if all of the work I have been doing with the natural methods will heal me if I give it enough time, and I also have a strong feeling it would keep coming back until I addressed the root cause.

Take A Shower Or Bath Daily

It may seem counter intuitive for someone with dry skin to take daily baths, but actually, daily showers or baths are good for someone with eczema. According to the National Eczema Association, bathing is a great way to get moisture back into the skin. The key is applying moisturizer within three minutes of bathing or showering to lock in the moisture. Its not the bathing that makes the skin dry, its the fact that the skin cannot hold the moisture in. Make sure the water is luke warm and do not scrub the eczema effected skin with a loofa or wash cloth. Its also a good idea to use gentle cleansers like Cetaphil and not soap.

    Choose The Right Moisturizer

Daily skin care is essential, and moisturizers are your first line of defense to keep your skin from drying out. You have three basic types to choose from:

Ointments, like petroleum jelly, are thick and great at holding in moisture, but they can be greasy.

Creams are a good middle ground not as greasy as ointments but still get the job done.

Lotions are the least thick, so theyre not quite as effective or long-lasting.

Is There A Cure For Eczema Or Will I Have This Skin Condition Forever

Gentle skin care, avoidance of triggers, and, if needed, medicated management can help keep symptoms at bay. But you may have eczema, such as atopic dermatitis, throughout your life.

Addressing the skin disease with a short- and long-term view will care for your skin and health best. We want to recognize that aside from the need to reduce itch and pain, we have to improve a patients quality of life. There is a lot of harm that comes from uncontrolled, untreated skin disease, says Silverberg. For example, itch and pain can cause sleep deprivation that has a cascade effect on overall health.

    Symptoms Of Atopic Eczema

    Mum

Atopic eczema causes the skin to become itchy, dry, cracked and sore.

Some people only have small patches of dry skin, but others may experience widespread inflamed skin all over the body.

Inflamed skin can become red on lighter skin, and darker brown, purple or grey on darker skin. This can also be more difficult to see on darker skin.

Although atopic eczema can affect any part of the body, it most often affects the hands, insides of the elbows, backs of the knees and the face and scalp in children.

People with atopic eczema usually have periods when symptoms are less noticeable, as well as periods when symptoms become more severe .
