A doctor may recommend that a part of the nail be removed, either chemically or surgically. Chemical removal of the nail involves putting an ointment on the nails for seven days. The nail comes off by itself with no bleeding.

Nail Psoriasis Treatment Options
Psoriasis is primarily a genetic condition. It cannot be cured or prevented. However, treatments for nail psoriasis are available to help your nails look and feel better. Always take gentle care of your nails if you have psoriasis. Vigorous attempts to remove debris from beneath your nails could cause a flare-up. If you feel self-conscious, nail polish is safe to use and can reduce the appearance of surface irregularities.

Psoriasis can develop in very uncomfortable places.
Inverse psoriasis and other types of psoriasis may develop on the genitals, armpits, bottoms of the feet, and skin creases. Psoriasis in skinfolds or the genital area will appear smooth and shiny, but may resemble eczema.
Affected areas often include larger, more solid patches of smoother skin than typical psoriasis. This is likely because of increased moisture in these areas.

Signs Of Nail Pitting
To identify nail pitting, look for shallow or deep holes in your fingernails or toenails. For reasons unknown, fingernails seem to be more affected than toenails. You may notice many pits or a single pit.
In addition to nail pitting, other abnormalities such as nail separation, flaking, or crumbling can also occur.
Eczema In Inconvenient Places
Eczema can occur in many inconvenient places especially for infants. Diapers and baby creams may irritate sensitive skin, causing extreme diaper rashes. In some cases, the eczema covers the entire area that comes into contact with a diaper.
Hypersensitivity to the material of a diaper or the creams used in washing the area can aggravate skin. Switching to soft cotton diapers or using a different cleanser may help ease eczema in the genital area for infants.
Adults with eczema in sensitive areas may need to change laundry detergents, cleansers, and fabrics.

Hand eczema is a common problem and when it occurs near the nail matrix it can produce a wavy nail. Eczema is so common that you probably have several current clients who have it. The lesions that distinguish this disorder can vary from fine scales to deep blisters that may be filled with fluid. Lesions are itchy, and the deeper they are the more they itch.
Hand eczema is sometimes accompanied by similar changes on the feet, or just the feet may be affected. Most cases of eczema on the foot are mistaken for athletes foot. The nails are most often affected by more severe outbreaks. Fingernail changes are common, but toenail changes are rare.
Its difficult to tell whether the patients condition is eczema or allergic contract dermatitis just by looking at the lesions because the disorders look similar. I often ask these patients if they have any skin allergies, especially to jewelry containing nickel or chrome, which are common sensitizers. A history of rubber allergy would also raise questions about its possible role in the rash.
If there is a chemical irritation in one area, the lesions will appear and gradually move outward, appearing to spread. This is not a sign of infection, only a change in the local nerves and blood vessels.

Alitretinoin is an oral treatment licensed for use in adults with severe chronic hand eczema that has not responded to treatment with potent topical steroids. Alitretinoin works by reducing the inflammation associated with eczema as well as damping down the response of the immune system. It is a capsule that is taken by mouth once a day with a meal for 12-24 weeks, depending on how the condition responds to the treatment.
Alitretinoin can only be prescribed by dermatologists or doctors with experience both in managing severe hand eczema and in the use of retinoids. The specialist will determine whether your hand eczema is severe by examining your hands and asking a series of questions about how the eczema affects your life. You will also need to be carefully monitored.
Retinoids are likely to cause severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy. This means that any woman with child-bearing potential must avoid becoming pregnant during treatment and for one month after stopping treatment for example, by using two effective methods of contraception. The drug can only be prescribed if a pregnancy test is negative. Regular pregnancy tests will be taken during treatment.
You should not breastfeed while taking alitretinoin and for a month after completing treatment.
