Why Is Eczema Such A Pain
“In people with eczema the skin does not retain moisture very well, which causes it to dry out easily. This makes the skin more open to allergens and irritants,” says the ASCIA website.
“These can trigger the skin to release chemicals that make the skin itchy. Scratching itchy skin causes more chemicals to be released, making the skin feel itchier. This scratch-and-itch cycle can cause discomfort, disrupt sleep and affect quality of life,” the website continues.
So how do you stop the annoying eczema cycle?
Things To Consider About Eczema Treatment
Basically, an eczema treatment floats around four primary goals:
- To control the itch
- To prevent infections
- To heal the skin
Treatment generally depends on your skin type and medical history bust most of the time, you will have to combine remedies and a proper hygiene to get your skin clear once more.

The Best Bath Products For Even The Most Sensitive Babies Skinaccording To Experts
Bath time is one of the sweetest, more relaxing parts of the day for both new parents and babies alike. Infants and kids alike usually enjoy the ritualit soothes them and at the same time can be super fun. They splish and splash, pop bubbles and get coddled by their adoring grownups. So the last thing parents want to do is rush through this special experience in fear of subsequent dry, itchy skin caused by harsh soaps.
Weve rounded up the best soothing, gentle baby bath products according to experts.
Kids and babies skin is super sensitive, says Dr. Julie Russak, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Russak Dermatology Clinic. Their skin hasnt fully formed a protective barrier yet, therefore the ingredients used on it should take that into account. Some ingredients she recommends watching out for include fragrances, dyes, lanolin, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulfate and methylisothiazolinone.
When shopping for baby bathing products, look for formulations that include soothing ceramides, oats, coconut oil, shea butter and aloe. Products with fewer ingredients and ingredients you recognize are cleaner and have less risk, says Dr. Nanette Silverberg, Chief of Pediatric Dermatology for Mount Sinai Health Systems. And if you or your little one are allergic to or irritated by even gentle product lines, Silverberg recommends seeing a board certified dermatologist to help with those tricky situations.

What To Look For When Buying A Body Wash For Psoriasis
The hardest thing about having psoriasis is arguably how itchy and painful flare-ups can be. Pink and red plaques of raised skin are often a sign of a severe breakout coming up. When this happens, its important to look for soothing skin-care products.
Some soothing ingredients you can find in a good body wash are aloe vera, manuka honey, oat, and tea tree oil. These are all known to calm irritated skin and provide quick or immediate relief to itchy and painful skin.
This is the reason why coal tar body wash and coal tar soap are high in demand among psoriasis sufferers. Tar has been used for centuries to relieve symptoms of itching and soothe painful breakouts on the skin. Because of its soothing properties, its the perfect formula to help treat and manage psoriasis distracting symptoms.
Moisturizing oils and butters
Another thing you constantly have to combat when you deal with psoriasis is chronic dryness of the skin. While creams and lotions are the best way to keep moisture locked into your skin, its also smart to look for a body wash that leaves your skin feeling softer and more supple after use.
Some plant oils and butters you can look for in your body wash are coconut, jojoba, and olive oils. You can also try looking for shea butter if you want the same rich nourishment but with less slip. These can all work together to make the skin more touchable and plump, even after a flare-up.
Things To Look Out For When Buying Bath And Shower Products
Youll want do do some research before buying cosmetic products since they can be harmful to you. Its always good to read the label carefully and avoid harsh chemicals which can strip away your bodys natural moisture.

Soothe eczema-prone skin with our edit of the best bath and shower products for irritated skin
Bath time should ideally be a blissful chillout window in an otherwise hectic day. Luxuriating in bubbles, pouring wine, floating your worries away…that kind of vibe. Except, if you suffer with eczema, in which case, baths and showers can present more stress than serenity, with everything from alcohol to fragrance to foaming agents in common bath and shower products aggravating and drying out eczema-prone skin, leaving it sore, flaky and itchy. “The combination of water and soap or shower gel can lead to moisture loss from the surface of the skin and disruption of the skins barrier resulting in dryness or irritation,” warns dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto.
Given that a daily wash is non-negotiable for most of us, finding a body cleanser thats gentle on eczema skin and ideally not too expensive is essential.
“When skin is dry and eczema-prone, it’s important that you opt for gentle formulas which are devoid of any fragrance or soap,” advises dermatologist and eczema expert Dr Ophelia Veraitch, of the Cranley Clinic in London. “The skin is in need of soothing and hydrating ingredients such as ceramides. Hypoallergenic formulations and perfume-free products that specifically target sensitive skin are a good choice.”

Emollient Cream Or Ointment
- Use liberally and frequently every hour if the skin is very dry, but at least 3 times a day.
- Apply gently in the direction of hair growth. Never rub up and down vigorously as this could trigger itching, block hair follicles or create more heat in the skin.
- Apply emollients after bathing, while water is still trapped in the skin, for extra hydration.
- Avoid putting hands into large tubs of emollient cream. Use a spatula to take out the correct amount each time and replace the lid immediately. Alternatively ask your doctor or pharmacist about pump dispensers for emollients.
- Continue to use the emollient, even when the eczema has improved, this will help prevent flare-ups.
- Storage depends on whether you prefer your emollient warm or cold try either the airing cupboard or fridge.
